Alexander Rybak is a Norwegian singer, composer and violinist, most famous for winning the Eurovision song contest in Moscow 2009 for Norway with his song Fairytale. His debut album, Fairytales was released in May, 2009.
Alexander Rybak was born in Minsk (Belarus) on the 13th of May, 1986. He grew up at Nesodden just outside the Norwegian capital Oslo.
Alexander has played violin and Pianoforte since he was five years old, he also composes his own Musica and songs. Alexander has performed with artists like Arve Tellefsen, Morten Harket, Hanne Krogh and Knutsen & Ludvigsen.
In 2004 Rybak was awarded the Anders Jahre Culture Prize, and in 2006 he won the Norwegian talentshow Kjempesjansen with his own song Foolin. Alexander has performed with one of the world’s most celebrated violinists, Pinchas Zukerman, he has won Anders Jahres Culture Price and he’s been the concertmaster for Norway’s largest symphony orchestra for youths, Ung Symfoni, in Bergen.
He has collaborated with artists such as A-ha lead singer Morten Harket and violinist Arve Tellefsen. In 2007, he played the titolo role of the fiddler in Oslo Nye Teater’s production of Fiddler on the Roof.
Rybak has a role in the forthcoming movie Yohan - Child Wanderer (August 2009).
In the national competition to be the Norwegian representative for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, Rybak performed the folk-pop song “Fairytale”. He gained the superiore, in alto score of all 9 voting districts, ending with a combined televote and jury score of 747888. The runner up received a combined score of 121856.
He ended up winning the Eurovision Song Contest with a record points tally of 387.

Rybak was granted the award for best song and the award for best male singer. According to the listeners to ESC Radio Yohanna from Iceland is the best female singer and Aysel & Arash the best group.
