What do te think the difference between shoujo ai and yuri and shounen ai and Yaoi is?

A while ago, I came to understand that Shojo Ai (Girls Love) and Shounen Ai (Boys Love) were about same sex romance stories, while Yuri and Yaoi were similar but più explicit and graphic in nature. But nowadays, I prefer to just drop the distinction and use the terms Yuri and Yaoi for any same-sex themed animes.

I'm noting that Media Blasters have a label called "Yuri Fan" (and might have one called Yaoi Fan). Most of these are hardly what I'd call explicit. fragola Panic has only a limited amount of fan service beyond an occasional kiss, for instance. And they don't have an "18+" rating. If those Anime are Yuri, I can't imagine anything "less explicit" than them yet still same sex that they would be labeled as Shojo Ai instead. So I don't think the international Anime industry is supporting the distinction between the terms. And then there's Yuru Yuri. It's got Yuri in the title, so I'm gonna call it a Yuri anime, even if it's mostly gag material and not really explicit, and even if they're just referring to "Lilly"s in the titolo instead of Yuri's other meaning.

Maybe there's room to make a distinction between Shojo Ai/Shounen Ai and Yuri/Yaoi in the realm of manga, doujinshi, and fan art, but in the realm of anime, I don't see any need to distinguish between the two. If there was a più explicit yuri titolo than normal, I'd just call it a yuri ecchi o yuri hentai.

There's probably no right o wrong answer to this, as they're terms that may have different meanings o connotations to different people in different contexts and evolve over time.

maybe i'm a little confused in that i've never actually seen a Shoujo Ai titolo and all of the yuri I've seen are actually really yuri. just about any kind of perverted gag seems to be enough to count it as a yuri, even if the gags don't "cross the line". an actual shoujo ai titolo would probably bore me. but i suppose trying to distinguish a yuri from a shoujo ai titolo is really just as diffucult as trying to distinguish a romantic comedy from an ecchi.

I don't know about Anime and manga for it. But for myself, I call myself a Shoujo Ai and Shounen Ai fan not a Yuri o Yaoi fan.

Because from what I have learned being in those fandoms. Yaoi and Yuri fan focus più on the sexual side of the relationships.
Like, if an OVA doesn't have a sex scene, they aren't happy with it. Like I have seen "Awww, no sex? I want me some Yaoi!" and I'm like "You just got some 'Yaoi' this whole thing was about a homosexual relationship'. Sometimes te even see them complaining about doujinshis not having sexual scenes. When I'm sitting there thinking it was beautifully made and touching, I didn't even want to look at anything sexual.
o there are other fan who want a lot of doujinshis for their pairings and stuff. Fanart and fanfictions for example.

Shounen Ai and Shoujo Ai fans, focus più on the actual relationships. The beauty of them and not the sexual part. From what I have seen, we don't care about the sexual parts. We just want to see the relationships and see the Amore and beauty.

te can actually a lot of times see the different in Yaoi and Shounen Ai fanart as well. Because in Yuri/Yaoi fanart, te can definietly tell there is a seme/uke stereotype going on. While with Shounen ai/Shoujo Ai te don't really see it.

Here, this is a confession I made about it.

I would say that the genres "yuri" and "yaoi" would be considered più sexual and graphic as opposed to just romance with no sex... I guess.

Honestly I wish classifications weren't so confusing, because there are times when they'll just blend together... Like if a story is pure romance but has like a couple sex scenes in it, it's automatically not considered shonen ai/ shojo ai anymore. Which i think is weird because if it's still totally romance and stuff I don't really think it should be dato a whole new genre.

*When I mention that I like the genres of shonen ai/ Yaoi I just say I like BL cause it pretty much covers it and it's less confusing. Plus i like the way it sounds better.
