Honestly, yes.

Bearing in mind that I am disappointed that there was not a kiss I also do not see how they would have fit this into the episode. I think they dedicated the Arwen moments in episode 12 as Merlin was not present for most of it giving Gwen and Arthur more interaction time. Also Gwen and Arthur had a lot of time dedicated when she was trying to kill him. Though I feel that does not really count I bet the producers beg to differ.

I think they concluded it with the magic reveal because let's face it, all of the things Merlin has done to protect Arthur, it really goes beyond even one episode and the fandoms period wanted that reveal.

If Arthur went back to Gwen the chances of survival would have been even less. The legend did not make them soul mates for departure sake but he did love Gwen dearly as well as she loving him since Lancelot was not a factor in this show.

What disappointed me a little was there was not even a farewell message to her as in other seasons or any other life death situation. This time Arthur was pretty certain he was going to die. I think he was pulling from Merlin's encouragement to keep on going. When Morgana died it seemed like he felt free, he let out a breath as soon as Merlin stabbed her and looked relieved once she stopped breathing telling Merlin he brought peace at last.

Though I really think there may be some deleted scenes where there was more in episode 12 between Gwen and Arthur. It is odd that Gwaine got a bed scene with a woman and the King and Queen only had one once they were sleeping and that was for the purpose of Merlin communicating with him. They really had a lot to cover and not a lot of time to cram everything into those last two episodes. The fans wanted the reveal more than anything overall and I think that is the way the producers and even the actors wanted it as they even stated for the most part that the final two episodes were their favorites.

@kenya1234j In this poll I was referring to the season as a whole not just the final episode. I already understand why a kiss in the final episode wouldn't have worked. I do agree with you on some of the points you made though.

Gwaine got a bed scene because the woman was evil. That's how it works in J&J's twisted world. One of the parties involved has to be evil/enchanted/a troll.

And yes, we did see Gwen and Arthur in bed in 5x12, and we got to see him carrying her off to said, I am aware. But THAT would have been the time for a kiss. The hug was lovely, but they could have kissed as well. I am wondering if one was shot and not used for that scene.

what could i say, fuck the writer! arwen intimate scenes were cut because they wanted to focus on merlin magic reveal. which they had plenty chance to do in the past four sesons ! instead they did a lot of useless bantering and funless joke like athur dropplng pants and merlin tried to pull it up ...something like that. and arwen which made miracle in evey season finally ruined at season 5 .

I think there were plenty of moments where the writers could have included a kiss, except they really decided to focus more on the Merthur relationship this season and completely shoved Gwen, and in the process Arwen, to the side. They decided to cut all the intimate scenes - as we know there were definitely more that weren't included on the 'deleted' section of the dvd (such as the one where they are talking in bed in 5x03). They ruined everything that they had set Arwen up to be at the end of series 4 because they clearly do not know, are not mature enough and cannot be bothered to show a healthy marriage on their show - slash baiting is obviously more important to them. It certainly made me very angry.
