They have to bring Barney & Robin together – she has to be the bride.
This mostra isn’t called How I Met Your Mother for no reason: in the first episode Ted met Robin, he fell for her. We already know that he meets his future wife @ Barney's wedding. So the whole setup of the mostra is that we see the struggle of Robin pairing up with Barney and finally marrying her in the final episode, where Ted meets his wife. Why else would Robin have been introduced in the first episode?
