He sighed, and responded:
"I don't know. I guess because I didn't want te to be mad at me."
He had told her the truth. Well sort of. There was so much più he had to tell her, but the time never seemed right. So he waited. For the time to come for her reply, and for him to spill his heart.
"Oh"
That's her reply? I'm pretty much telling te I can't live soundly when you're angry with me, and all te have to say is 'oh'? How dare you! How dare te not care for me like I care for you! I could have stayed that night, te know! But then what? te might have hated me. o te could have asked to not be partners with me! Then I would be miserable. But at least you'd be happy, right? 'Cause that's all that ever matters to you! But he had to stop there, because she spoke up.
"I guess I thought it was because te didn't care. I mean, normally te don't listen to me, te know?" She looked at him expectantly, as if saying I thought te didn't Amore me anymore. I thought I could count on you.
He looked at her too. He tried to read into what she was saying, decode her thoughts and put them into words he could understand. But all he got from her was a disappointed look as he continued not to answer. The truth was, he didn't know how to respond to that. He could tell her everything, that really, he was madly in Amore with her and he couldn't lose her. o he could play it casual and say he had had to wake up early the successivo morning. But there were downsides to both choices. And he had to choose fast because she would give up on waiting if he took much longer. So instead of going with his original choices, he ad-libbed.
"Bones, I care about te a lot. Don't doubt that for a second. But I guess you're rubbing off on me, te know? I went with my brain instead of my heart." Uh-oh. Did I reveal to much? Crap, what if she reads into that and comes out with I Amore her? Okay, that is totally true, but that could freak her out and then we may never see each other again and then I'll spiral into a depression and then... he continued going through all the possibilities as she thought that over.
What could he mean da that? He went with his brain? So neglecting situations that are supposed to come up is being a 'brain person' now? Is that what I do? He must hate me for that. Wait, then what would he have done if he'd gone with his heart? Would he have stayed? Would he have let me give my speech that I've planned out every night he hasn't been with me? Would he have told me how he feels? The domande continued to buzz around in her head. She felt the car start to sposta inoltrare, avanti and couldn't believe they hadn't already left the Jeffersonian. She looked over at him. At his perfect profile. His perfectly chiseled chin, his strong jaw, his straight, yet softly rounded, nose, his deep, chocolaty-brown eyes that she could never look away from, even when she focused all her energy on it. His lips...she stopped there. She knew she had to stop thinking like a love-crazed girl, and act più like an independent woman.
"Oh. Umm, Booth?" Crap. What did I just say? Do I plan on asking him something? Oh yeah, I think I wanted to know if he loves me. No, wait. I wanted to know what he would have done had he stayed. Yeah, that's it. Right? Crap, I think he's going to answer me. Why can't he ignore me, just this once?
"Yeah, Bones?"
"Oh, erm, I was just, uh, wondering, I guess, what te might have, uh, done had you, uhm, stayed?" She could see the smile in his eyes, but he kept it from moving to his lips.
"Well, I dunno. Depends on what te would have done, I guess." He glanced over at her. She almost looked away, but again she was drawn to him. How could she act like this? She needed to stay professional. Who am I kidding? I need this to be più than professional. No, Temperance. te are a very accomplished woman who needs to be focused in order to succeed at what te do. Stay focused and forget everything that isn't necessary to the case: The 21 year-old male who was murdered one week fa with a rock, near a river with surrounding cat tails. So she merely replied with,
"Oh"
I know, it's kinda boring, but I'm trying to keep everyone in character, and well, te know the characters. It took them over 2 years of working together and blackmail just to get them to baciare under mistletoe.
Feedback is appreciated :)
