Well, after thinking this through, I finally decided to start this article. It's not bashing at all, (so please don't if necessary), but it's just about my view on what I've read in TVD libri & seen on the mostra so far.
Now, in the Vampire Diaries books, Damon has made it clear più than once that he loves Elena. It took him a period of time to fall in Amore with her. I know everyone who's read the libri knows this. But, what is truly at the cuore of my curiosity/confusion/slight frustration is some other fan are ignoring all of the Delena scenes & passing them off as nothing/invalid, because deep down, Damon truly loves Bonnie, & how it'll always be Stefan for Elena.
Now I know everyone ships who they want, but why ignore what's written down, which is that Damon has only loved Elena, while his feelings for Bonnie are referred to da everyone, including Damon himself, as *care*? I find it hard to believe that Damon would hide/not realize he also loved Bonnie if he were dying. His soul (child) only wanted to say sorry for all of the stuff she went through, nothing about love. That just says he cares enough to tell her he's sorry. With Elena, the child told her he loved her. It wasn't in an obsessive way either. So, to say Damon is hiding/oblivious to his feelings for Bonnie when his SOUL self detto he loved Elena & basically cared to say one last thing, is just ignoring what's written down again & SPECULATING. That's it. FACT: Damon only loved Elena. FACT: He cared enough about Bonnie to save her in the DD & say he's sorry for what happened. End of story. Why add on?
This all could've changed if LJ Smith had continued to write the libri though. Even if it did appear that she was going to have Delena be endgame, she could've added più Bamon in just to make things più difficult, but it'd be a long shot, since she had planned on adding più to Delena, which got più thorough & epic in Midnight (according to her e-mails). It's just to make everyone happy, though she did mostra più DE depth than ever.
This is my own personal opinion that I postato on a fanpick, but I thought I'd mention it here. I Amore the essence that LJ Smith put into her characters. She may not legally own them, but she made them. So since she isn't continuing, I will not read anymore TVD libri past Midnight. Since there is a default Stelena endgame & a possible convenient pairing in Bamon so Damon can be with someone (*shakes head*), then it'll be forced, since it may o may not have been what the creator of these ships wanted. If a true fan to LJ's TVD books, shouldn't te accept what she would've wanted (which she hasn't come out directly in telling), o just be bias & go with the forced, predictable route? Not bashing, but I just don't get it, even if te are a Stelena/Bamon fan. Again, just my opinion.
Now, onto the show: Damon has detto he loves & will ALWAYS choose Elena. Some are saying stuff like: *Damon's lying & so selfish!*. If he were just selfish, he would've compelled Elena to Amore him long ago, but he hasn't because with her, he wants everything to be REAL, friendship o more.
Some are saying that Damon looked at Bonnie, pained when he stroked her cheek, proving he has hidden feelings for her. He just doesn't want her to die. It may prove a certain type of care/respect, part of his changing on his journey to human, but I didn't see anything that shows hidden feelings. I think as characters, they have chemistry (don't kill me), but not of the eventual loving relationship kind (friendship maybe, who knows). I'd like a Bamon friendship. JMO.
I also wanted to talk about Stefan: I loath Stefan in the books, but on the show, he's not as annoying & I sincerely like him as a character. He has so much potential (though IMO his character lacks dynamic when he's in scenes with Elena). I have gotten frustrated with him at times, particularly in *Klaus*, but I still like him as a character.
I do not agree with Stefan's decision to just let Elena walk away, even if they had a plan to save her with the elixir o because it was Elena's decision. Yes Stefan isn't strong enough at all to fight off Klaus, BUT he could've taken Elena somewhere to postpone the ritual, but he didn't. He just walked away to make a call to Damon, who sprung into action & put his life on the line just to keep Elena safe. He also saved Caroline/Tyler/Matt, bitten in the process, but he still went to desperate lengths to help stop/postpone the ritual to find some way to save Elena & keeping everyone else sicuro, cassetta di sicurezza at the same time. I do, however; like Stefan even più now that I hear he's trying to do whatever it takes to save Damon (hope he doesn't get too unforgivable, but Damon should stop getting stepped on each time too).
Lastly, I noticed something interesting in episode 20: When Damon saved Caroline from Tyler in werewolf form, getting bitten as his payment, it reminded me of when Damon saved Bonnie & died in *Midnight*. So, if Damon can care for others like Caroline on the mostra & basically *as good as dead* due to his bite, then why must he saving Bonnie in *Midnight* have to be all about *in love*? He did it because it was an impulse decision, since Bonnie is one of the people he cares about. It doesn't mean that he gave up his life for the woman he *loves* (Elena=only). He did it on the mostra & libri because he does have humanity left within him, & he cares for others outside of Elena, not just because of her. That is what I Amore about Damon in the libri & the show. He's willing to go the distance for those he cares for/loves.
