I just hope that they keep with the original gothic feel, possibly use my casting suggestions, perhaps film it in black-and-white, and use the original music.

That's all I ask for in the new movie.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I hated Ben Cross as Barnabas in the 1991 series revival. I guess my heart will always belong to Jonathan Frid's portrayal, but I'm trying to keep an open mind.

I have to agree a bit with sodapop429. I too didn't like the 1991 remake. I'm open to Johnny Depp but I'm not sure about Tim Burton. I suppose my heart will always belong to Frid.

Not really. I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm not a big Johnny Depp fan. But I think what put me off the most was when one of the producers, Richard Zanuck, said the film would be "really funny." Um...no.

I was trying to give this movie the benefit of the doubt but frankly everything I'm hearing about it makes me shudder. All these "very funny" comments about the script. And Vicki a waitress? Julia a lush? Willie middle-aged? Angelique "big in the town" and a cross between Bette Davis and Janis Joplin? All I can say is...WTF?

I loved the 1991 version (not as I love the original) and I really can't wait to see the new Depp movie. For us DS fans this is nice because no matter if it does well or flops it's going to peak newbie interest in the original show.

I think I'm on the fence. Some of the things I've read make me cringe, while others have piqued my curiosity. I guess I'm going to wait and see, but original DS will always have my heart.

I'm on the fence, too. It sounds like they are going to camp this up, disregarding the tragic and atmospheric nature of the Gothic romance that was imbued in the series. I am not liking Depp's red lipstick and the hideously freakish long fingernails. Barnabas as played by Frid, was a well-groomed gentleman and never a horrible Nosferatu-Max Schreck type! Even Ben Cross and Alec Newman got that somewhat right. I don't like the 1752 to 1772 storyline change, either. Barnabas was never a "playboy", which makes light of his great tragic back-story. He was a man who succumbed to the wiles of a conniving woman versed in the black arts while on a business trip to a tropical locale, far removed from the cold, harsh environment he'd known and a home sans love except for that given by his mother, little Sarah, and uncle Jeremiah. Naturally he would be tempted. Can you imagine living in a household with miserable tyrant Joshua and that crone of a sister of his, Aunt Abigail? I was hoping for a storyline based on the Martinique scenario. Alas, it's not to be. Barnabas will be "turned" by a vampire named...Cornelius...who jumps him while he's riding a horse. Get it? Tim Burton's way of saying he's got a monkey on his back, another of his great homages, no doubt, wink, wink.
