18 seems solid to me. I'm 19 and there are kids my age from my high school already getting married and it's totally their choice, even if half their marriages wI'll fall apart...

I think the same age of adulthood makes sense since that is the age one is legally responsible for themselves but I find it odd that in the US one can legally get married and even drink alcohol but not able to rent a car (25yrs old!). If one isn't trusted renting a car then why are they trusted with marriage and alcohol? That seems so weird to me...

That being said, the younger one marries the higher rate of divorce because of the lack of maturity in making such a big decision. I'm not sure what to think about "parental consent" but I think this becomes a domanda più of how much do te expect the government to be involved in your life and how much do te expect yourself to be responsible for your own actions? Should the government stop te from getting married until te are statistically most likely to be successful in marriage o should te have the liberty and freedom to make that kind of decision on your own?

One argument to consider is the cost and process of divorce. When one marries at a younger and più questionable age hence a higher rate of divorce, it is important to note the affects that has on society. Generation X in America will tell te that they were scarred da all of the divorces that resulted in the "no fault divorce" da their parents in the Baby Boomer generation who coincidently were getting married very young right after high school at high rates. Most divorces are handled da the court aka US taxpayer money so how much are the US population willing to pay for people who make bad decisions if they could legally make them wait until they are less likely to make those costly (emotionally and financially) mistakes?

Personally, I think legal age of independence and teaching about what decisions are likelier to end in divorce are the best things we can do.

I think 18 sounds pretty reasonable to me. At 18, you've finished school, can vote, can drive, can drink alcohol/buy cigarettes... the only thing te can't do is go to the casino.

However, I think that it also comes down to the country, as well. I know some countries have different beliefs and the idea of marriage is looked at in a far, far different perspective than in the Western world - I have no issue with that, either. So, I think it is also up the country and government to dictate how the issue of marriage is dealt with. That way, hopefully everyone is happy.
