I don't know where te got the info that it was an okay thing to be even a little selfish but you're wrong, The thesaurus says other words for selfish ( which I didn't have to use- cause its common sense) are: mean, mean spirited, ego-maniac, egocentric, cold-hearted, thinks only about the benefit of ones self, thinks of only how to gain things for ones self. These are not good ways to be. The Beast was put under a curse for being selfish- Gaston is selfish and Conceited. So think before te use it again because te are using it way out of context.
