What? Why do people hate any disney princesses; I don't understand!

Bonjour! Today I just wanted to defend a personal favourite of mine: Queen Elsa of Arendelle. I know she's been getting a lot of hate lately and I don't know why, so I just wanted to point out why I like her and the good things about her. And why do people hate any Disney princess? I see plenty of hate piled on Ariel, who I've loved for years, and Snow White, who's adorable, and some of the others that I Amore as well, (all of them, hehe!). So if anybody can answer the titolo question, that would be fantastic cause it's really been bothering me.

Anyway, here we go

Why I like Elsa -

- She has magical powers
- I can really relate to her. I prefer being alone sometimes because at school I am regarded as the invisible introvert. I sometimes feel excluded in my group of friends, who I completely love, but I just feel that way sometimes. I just want to build an ice palace and be alone for a while.
- I also have a younger sister and they are big responsibilities. They're always your priority, and, like Elsa, I would do whatever it takes to keep my younger sister safe
- She builds Olaf (and saves him)
- She in my opinion is probably one of the most selfless princesses in the franchise
- She likes chocolate
- She kind of knows Hans is up to something from the start: "I think te should go."
- She has a killer voice and sings one of my favourite songs
- She has a nice dress
- She makes being a royal person like a real job, instead of just getting married and looking pretty
- She is a very strong and courageous character
- She even fights off two men
- She seems even a bit realistic, except for the powers thing
- At the coronation, she says hello to her sister first and tells her she looks beautiful
- She makes everything alright in the end and creates a beautiful ice skating rink
- She put a cup-holder in Kristoff's new sled
- complessivamente, generale Elsa is a protective Queen who will do anything for her kingdom and Anna and just wants to be herself

What's good about Elsa -

- She's incredibly selfless, as previously mentioned. People say she ditches her kingdom and "oh my god, that is so selfish". I disagree with this. Yes, she ditches her kingdom, but it's because she knows she's a threat to it. Ditching the kingdom keeps it safe. She knows Anna is capable of governing it. She's protecting her kingdom da leaving. It's a sacrifice. I think it's a courageous and selfless thing to do.
- She cares about Anna so much. She tries to tell her about Hans and tries to keep her sicuro, cassetta di sicurezza as best as she can. "Anna, I'm just trying to protect you."
- She takes on the role of being Queen. She could have just sat there in the corner of her room, cried and detto "no!" and made Anna be Queen, but no, she doesn't. She became Queen, prepared to serve her subjects and rule the Kingdom. This was also a sacrifice and a courageous thing to do; she must have been pretty Ribelle - The Brave because she went through with it while having to keep her power a secret.
- She is also emotional. te don't have to be a perfectly strong princess who fights wars with a sword, laughs in the face of Amore and just never cries. Elsa is tough and emotional. She broke down when Anna froze. That is perfectly understandable and if te were to blame someone for crying like that, when their sister died and it was partly their fault, then I think te should be ashamed of yourself. (I'm not saying te do, of course, but I don't think it's nice of anyone if anyone thinks it.)
- She acts like a perfect Queen: elegant, dutiful, graceful, kind, friendly, etc.
- She escapes from her cell. (You go girl!)
- She's just selfless, courageous and sacrificial, that I feel really sorry for her. She was influenced and propagandised da her parents so much to believe that she was evil, and I think she had a hard life. I feel very sorry for her.

Things I don't like about Elsa -

- She sends marshmallow, caramella gommosa e molle after Anna and Kristoff (probably a little stupid)

There te have it. If there are any Elsa haters, please tell me why te do hate her, because I do not understand it. It is perfectly acceptable if te have her last on your list, as someone has got to hold that place I suppose. I am very sorry if I have offended anyone at all and I didn't mean to, I just wanted to wonder why people hate Disney princesses and express my thoughts on Elsa. So why do people hate Disney Princesses? I really want to know.

truth76 To be honest, I find her lame.

manu962 I don't understand why people hate any DP either. How can you think of yourself as a DP fan if you hate one of the DPs? BTW About the Marshmallow thing, I said before that she though she was more dangerous than Marshmallow. And since she created him he would never hurt them. Just like Olaf loves Anna because Elsa loves Anna.

Annabethandco No offence, but the response: "To be honest, I find her lame.". Isn't very descriptive. Can you justify your opinion at all?

truth76 ^Well, I didn't want to make Misscassecou sad, what I really wanted to say is that Elsa fans give lame reasons for liking Elsa, I do think that people can like Elsa for what Misscassecou said below "What's good about Elsa" but I think "She has magical powers" and "she likes chocolate" is lame.

randarful I'm loving your positivity!! I feel like this club should definitely promote more love for all the princesses, because they already get so much nasty hate for no reason outside of fanpop and it makes me so mad!

iwasneverhere Um... I have heard LOTS of comments over the years about how Ariel is SUCH an AIR-HEAD for loving Eric. I guess, way before the Elsa business started, there was the nine-year-old me, and The Little Mermaid was the first DP I was introduced to. I saw her before I saw Snow or Cindy, or Aurora. So maybe nostalgia makes me love her...but seriously, Ariel has been FOLLOWING me around all of my life. My neighbor gave me an Ariel diary. At my high school graduation they played a piano solo of "Part of Your World" during the reception. Over the years, Ariel has popped up in my life at major milestones as a sort of "present" for achieving things academically. When I was struggling in graduate school, an Ariel snow globe popped up, and gave me a little boost of comfort. Shortly after I graduated from grad school, a rare porcelain statue appeared, as did one of the old Ariel music boxes from the 1980s. Hating a DP is not something I usually do. I don't even hate Aurora, who turned up last on my "agency" list. The difference was how much ELSA WAS SHOVED in my face. I think, people I knew, and people on the internet touted Elsa's deeds, appearance, goals, voice to the utmost ---- and put down every single other disney princess that came before Elsa. I thought I was stuck in a freaky and hellish episode of the Twilight Zone. It was that AMAZING that everyone thought the same way!!! I saw the same movie everyone else saw, but I was all by myself with my feelings that Elsa did nothing so exceptional in her movie. Elsa remained terrified of her powers up until the last 5 minutes of the movie, and spent most of the movie running away/isolating herself from her responsibilities and from the people who loved her. I was FURIOUS at the TROLLS who didn't bother to explain to Elsa's DUMB AS A DOORNAIL PARENTS that Elsa could be TAUGHT how to USE/CHANNEL her powers CONSTRUCTIVELY. Oh, well. Nothing in the story addressed that. It took ditzy Anna to mend all of the broken bridges and HEAL the rift in the family that the TROLLS STARTED. Lots of things in Frozen did not make sense to me, but I digress. Elsa became the end all be all. And with the focus on her, I could not carry out a decent conversation with anyone about Disney. Everyone BELIEVED Frozen was the best movie EVER, and that Elsa was the BEST heroine EVER. The people I tried to talk to were aghast that I didn't feel the way they did; the people on the internet called me names ranging from "bitter girl," to "troll," to outright insults of my intelligence, saying, " you need hooked-on-phonics," "you don't know anything about harsh winters in history, did you ever have a history lesson?" "You know nothing about farming ( when my dad grew up on a FARM!!!!). The list goes on. They told me I was a person who could not appreciate the emotions displayed by Elsa in the movie, because there was something inherently wrong with me. I had no compassion, or feeling, and did not understand the concept of sacrifice, etc. etc., etc. Oh, god, it was just wonderful. I began to slowly HATE Elsa. For not only the traits I failed to see in her, but for the slamming of my own intelligence and my own personality. If I hate a DP, it is only because I had a very ROUGH introduction to the popularity associated with Frozen and Elsa. People picked me apart for expressing any misgivings over this movie. The only thing I can say about Elsa, is that thanks to Elsa, I BECAME ISOLATED. With none of the other princesses ( even if people liked/ raved about them more than the others), was time taken to berate me so much over my self-worth because I disliked something. And that's why I HATE Elsa, and why she is last in my book. I still wonder that a fictional disney character could become a weaponized tool to eviscerate me as a person. But life is strange. And I accept what I can not hope to change. I will just live with things, and cope as best I can. Sorry for the explanation. I know I upset some people, so sorry about that. All of the reasons you love Elsa? I have heard every single one of them before. I can recite them back to you. I got a big whopping dose of pain from Elsa and Frozen. My apologizes for meeting a DP princess I didn't like. I did not know that I could EVER hate a DP. :( All of this really shocked me. I hope Moana might be better. At least, for me.

324anna Firstly, thank you SO much for writing this article! I have to admit Elsa has many negative traits, but I love her for the reasons you stated and more. I loved how positive you are towards her. Also, @truth76, I hope I don't offend you, but she has the right to love a DP for whatever reason she wants. I personally love how Elsa likes chocolate, because it's realistic to see a DP who loves candy imo. I also love Elsa for her ice powers. It's not very kind to call someone's reasons lame, even if you don't agree with them.

BelleRose829 I don't like Elsa, but I'm starting to dislike her less if that helps. Seriously I don't like her and why defend someone who is already popular enough. I agree with iwasneverhere, but I don't think "she builds Olaf," "she likes chocolate" and "she has powers" are valid reasons for liking a character, given that those are the main reasons most people like her is annoying to me. If anything this made me dislike Elsa more I don't like to have things that only reinforce the popular opinion. Even with Ariel there are tons of haters on her and I love any support she gets, but some articles just reinforce the popular opinion with no real reason to do so and even if I like a character I will disagree with the the author has to say. Example: This article. Nice article though I like your positivity. Sorry I'm very grumpy today, pardon me if I seem terribly rude or childish.

I mean, Disney does this unfortunately with every new princess (they even have since Ariel, trying to show how "different" each is from every previous one) but they were probably even worse about it with Elsa than Merida. Elsa "isn't like the other Princesses". Though how I have no idea- she's VERY similar to Aurora, Cinderella, Tiana, and even a bit to Mulan, to some extent. I think people just love hating the DPs but a DP they can USE to hate the others with they love. If that makes sense. Anyway, my own problems with her (though I'm sure not a hater): -yeah, mostly the hype, though that can't really be called Elsa's fault. but it gets annoying how shoved in people's faces she is for reasons like "she has a cool theme song I can project my problems into!" and "she has cool superpowers!" and "she's so pretty!" etc. If you hype a character, I'd hope it's for better reasons than that. Not saying nobody can't like her for that, but it's annoying to have someone so hyped for shallow reasons and nothing else. -sending Marshmallow after sister. people have defended her saying "but she didn't know he'd do that!". But that's the problem- sending a wild monster she can't control after her. Bad idea. Just as reckless as anything Anna did if you ask me. -mostly, she never tries to learn how to control her powers. the "conceal" thing is very obviously not working, as she learns not once but twice in the movie. yet that's what she does. even when Anna offers help and support, she flat-out refuses to accept it and try. You can argue that's how she was raised, but she's 21, and where did all that "I don't give a hoot cuz I'm free!" attitude go? Also agree with everything Belle said.

shanyuisboss Manu, you can still be a DP fan even if you don't like one DP. You can't like every aspect of something you like.

CRaZy_rawR Agree with Aliyah! ^^ Anyway, I don't really agree with the article. I definitely don't hate Elsa! It's more of a dislike. I just find her boring. Tbh, some of your reasons for liking her aren't very justifying in Elsa's character: "she likes chocolate, she builds Olaf, she has a nice dress, she put a cup holder in Kristoff's new sled" I do know that you put a lot of effort forth in this article, so I commend you for that. :33

MissCassecou Wow, guys, seriously? Why am I getting so much hate because of some of the reason's I like Elsa? I specifically stated why I like her and her good traits and yes there is a difference is some of them. "Liking chocolate" is not a good trait but it makes her more realistic as 324anna pointed out (thank you!!!) and these similarities and likes between herself and me could lead to a friendship if she was a real character, so what's wrong with liking something she does/likes? Honestly? But thanks so much to everyone else who wrote nice comments and yes I did put a lot of effort into this article purely for positivity and to say something nice about a person and if I get thrown in the dirt then that's not very fair. But thanks for the sweet comments, you lovely people know who you are!

BelleRose829 I don't think my comment was hate, just criticism. Just because people don't agree with you doesn't mean it's hate, sorry but I found most of your reasons false and illegitimate. You can like whoever you want to, but you're almost calling anyone who hates Elsa stupid, also all you did was reinforce the already popular opinion. Excuse my grumpiness, but I felt the need to comment.

shanyuisboss I love Elsa, but it seemed like you tried to use these shallow reasons as reasons to convince people to like her. Sorry to say, but this just makes Elsa fans look like they don't have real reasons for liking her. All the things you said were pretty obvious and I honestly feel like you need to accept other people's opinions. Don't take it as a personal attack if someone hates Elsa. I adore her, but I understand why people don't like her. She has a great personality but Elsa fans act like she is this brilliant masterpiece that nobody could have ever thought of but use basic reasons for why they love her. I'm sorry if I sound mean and rude. I do feel like you put a lot of work into this and I'm happy that you put passion into defending someone you love. Don't get me wrong, I love Elsa. I am just giving you some advice on convincing. Don't use these kinds of reasons and act like they are facts and people must love Elsa. If they don't that's okay, but I'm happy you do. Also, she is only getting hate here. Outside of fanpop, as Iwasneverhere said, she is getting shoved in our faces everywhere we go. We are not giving you hate, you just kind of seemed like you were taking the Elsa "hate" too personally in your article and honestly, we are fed up with this constant Elsa love being shoved in our faces way more than you might be fed up with this "hate". MissCassecou Hi guys, I'm so sorry, I honestly didn't mean to shove anything in your face. All I did was ask why anyone hated the Disney Princesses - I wasn't calling anyone stupid at all. And I wasn't using shallow reasons to get people to like her; I wasn't trying to get people to like her at all, but just to show some appreciation for a character I love. That's all. Honestly this article is completely innocent and I think it's been misinterpreted. Please don't call my reasons for liking someone false or illegitimate, I clearly stated the differences between her good qualities and why I liked her, and yes, I am sensitive and I did feel a little bit hurt from some comments. But once again I am sorry if I made anyone feel that way; it was truly not my intention and I think this article has been interpreted wrongly; all I did was state good things about a character and why I like her. I sincerely apologise

shanyuisboss ^That's okay. I understand how you feel. I'm the one that should be saying sorry for being rude. You had great intentions and I applaud that about this. Anyway, I understand your intentions so let's just move on I guess. :)

Allaiyah Cinderella: Given the time period Cinderella is supposed to take place in, she could have married her way out of her family situation. She could have gotten to know a nice lower class or merchant class man over time & married a guy she really knew. Instead she holds out for the richest guy in town, marrying him after knowing him for only a few hours of meeting him. Story might as well have taken place in modern day Las Vegas. As an adult, I see the mice as cheap story filler. Sleeping Beauty: No personality whatsoever. Kind of fair given that it's the only classic Disney story where the prince actually has a personality. Snow White: Her entire personality is that she's impossibly feminine & tooth rottingly sweet. All she does is clean & sing. The prince is presented as an afterthought. Ariel: A teenager who runs away from home & changes everything about herself to marry a complete stranger. If she had been a prince, it would have been every bit as shameful...Though a male Ariel would have been hit with a double standard & be labeled as a stalker. GOOD Disney princesses are Mu-Lan, Belle (by marriage), Alice (in the 2ed book, she was crowned by the White Queen).

MissCassecou ^ Hi, um, this article was specifically about Elsa, and just hating Disney Princesses for the sake of hating them, which I attempted to challenge. I have written some articles based on the other Disney Princesses in which I defend their actions (you can check out my profile if you want to see those). It is important to judge historical characters by the constructs of their time. I agree with your point about the double standards however the question should be raised (specifically regarding the classic Princesses) if whether we should judge them based on the criteria of their time of creation or to our modern standards. I apologise for the philosophical history questions - history is my passion.
