Hello everyone! I'm Veronica (a.k.a. ApplesauceDoctr :D), and hey, it's been a little while since I've written an article. It feels good to get back into the spirit of writing. :D
So, what have I today? As te can see, I'll be analyzing the song "Reflection" from Disney's Mulan. I made a lyric video for it about a week fa and realized just how deep the song is! However, in this analysis, I'll also be taking a look at the extended version of the song. It shows a different side of Mulan that...well, you'll see soon enough.

Alright then! Let's take a listen to Reflection!

Movie Version

Look at me
I will never pass for a perfect bride
o a perfect daughter
Can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?

From this, we can see that Mulan knows that she can't be what society expects her to be - that perfect porcellana, in porcellana doll. It's just not going to happen, and as a result, she domande herself. If she's not that perfect bride o daughter, then what is she? Who is she supposed to be?

Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself
I would break my family's heart

This excerpt here makes me think of Elsa. And Hercules. All of these characters want to just be themselves and fit in, but it's not that easy. For Mulan, she wants to be herself, but not if it means disappointing her family. She truly loves and respects them and is willing to try to be what society expects of her in order to maintain a good family image. As we've discussed, though, she can't do this, thus bringing us to the chorus:

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I don't know?

For some reason, I never really understood what Mulan meant da this, and here I am right now feeling like a complete dunce. xD
Whenever Mulan sees her reflection, she sees what she's trying to be - the "perfect porcellana, in porcellana doll". te know this da now. But she knows that's not who she is. She wants to be her true self while at the same time making her family proud. Of course, she feels that she can't be herself without giving the Fa family a bad name.

Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

(That last line is repeated, da the way. ;D)
This basically re-establishes what she's already been saying. She hides her true self to try and fit society's expectations, yada yada. She awaits the day, if indeed there is a day, when she can be herself and not worry about dishonoring the family.

I'll bet (not really) you're thinking, "Wow, that's it? Short song." Indeed. It's a gorgeous song, but rather short. We'll now take a look at the extended version of the song. Why was the song trimmed? Let's find out!

Extended Version

Who is that perfect bride?
It's not me, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

The looking-into-the-mirrors bit should look familiar, as does this excerpt entirely. The only real way this contrasts with the precedente excerpt I showed is that instead of her admitting to hiding herself, here, it's più directly related to what just happened in the movie *cough cough Matchmaker cough*.
The successivo excerpt is where the contrast comes in.

How I pray
That a time will come, I can free myself
From their expectations

te know how the movie version mainly focuses on her wanting to please her family? I mean, yeah, she does want to be accepted as herself, but only if she can do so in an "honorable" way.
That gets thrown off a bit here. This suggests that she wants to be devoid from society's expectations altogether in order to live the life she wants. Let's continue on to see where I'm going with this.

On that day
I'll discover someway to be myself
And to make my family proud

Wait, haven't we gone over this already? Yep, we sure have! No need to talk this over again. It's the next stanza we want to take a look at.

They want a docile lamb
No one knows who I am
Must there be a secret me
I'm forced to hide?

Alright, let's see. She's saying that society is basically like this: We don't know who te are, and frankly, we don't care. But we expect te to be perfect. Got that? For someone they hardly know, society's putting a huge weight on Mulan's shoulders, and she's not happy about this. From that last line, she doesn't seem too satisfied with being "forced to hide" herself.
This is the part that makes this extended version of the song seem questionable in respect to what we actually saw in the movie. It makes Mulan seem a bit più selfish. Sure, she brings up wanting to make her family proud, but the extended song primarily focuses on how she feels with these expectations. She's had it. She just wants to come right out and be herself without the tension of fitting into the role of the "docile lamb".

Must I pretend that I'm
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

This excerpt makes my point much più clear. What makes the extended version and movie version similar is the fact that Mulan obviously wants to be herself. However, in the movie version, she seems mostly disappointed that her efforts to fit in don't work, and she hopes that she'll be able to make her family proud someday. Here, though, Mulan seems amaro about the fact that society has set these expectations on her. She's sick and tired of pretending to be someone she's not.

So, let's quickly compare and contrast the two. :D

Both Versions:
- Mulan wants to be herself
- Mulan wants to make her family proud

Extended Version:
- Emphasis on wanting personal freedom from society's wishes
- amaro about these aforementioned wishes
- amaro about hiding herself

Final Cut:
- Mostly just emphasis on her desire to be herself; no detectable bitterness

And there te have it! I hope te enjoyed Leggere this, as I had a ton of fun Scrivere it. :) te may want to check out my link song analysis of "If te Can Dream" from a while back.
I'll bet that te either a) are going to listen to the extended song right now o b) already have, haha. :D
Well, that about wraps things up! Thanks so much for reading! Adios!

Facts about Cinderella

1.Cinderella is the secondo Disney Princess, joining the franchise in 1950, after Snow White in 1937.

2.Cinderella is the first Disney Princess to be seen as a little girl, before Tiana in 2009 and Rapunzel in 2010.

3.Cinderella's hair color has often been the subject of dibattito among fans. In the original film, Cinderella's hair seems to be of a light arancia, arancio tone, classifying her as either a redhead o a ginger as her hair had been offically called 'burnt orange'. In the franchise and in the Disney parks,

4.Cinderella's hair is publicized as bright yellow, making her a golden-blonde,...

Even though all the princesses are pretty and attractive, one is just abit hotter than the next. So let's get started.

10.Rapunzel
I don't know if it has anything to do with the 3D animazione but I just don't find Rapunzel hot. She looks an 11 anno old and she's supposed to be 18. And her face isn't all that great either, her eyes are too freaking large.

9.Snow White
I guess we're not to supposed to find Snow White hot. She is only 14 but she looks a little older than that. Probably because she looks so tall compared to the dwarves. She's too cute and baby like to be hot. I like her...

As te may already of noticed I am a bit of a fan of the Disney Princesses and their films. One aspect about these films that I find really interesting is the kingdoms in which their stories take place, including the buildings and the general surroundings. So I decided to write an articolo discussing each Princesses kingdom. In this articolo I am looking at Walt Disney's princesses ie. the original three.

20. Part of Your World (Reprise)
This song is quick, simple, but very sweet. It shows te don't need to have a lot of metaphors and poetic devices to convey what te want. Ariel expresses her desire to become human so clearly and plainly in this song, just da the emotion and longing she conveys, and da just putting it into simple sentences.

While the Princess Party line of DVD's had the goal of accompanying Disney Princess-themed parties, the Princess Stories line has the much più general purpose of serving as everyday entertainment for young girls everywhere. As a result, there's a significant dip in quality from the Party line to the Stories line. We're going to take and look and see just how bad that decline is!

DVD Content
Just like in my last review, I'll go over all of the categories of the DVD one at a time. But first, it's necessary to talk about the presentation. When te first pop in the disk, you're shown a young girl's...

Hello, I'm PrueFever, a 32 years old guy from Denmark and a Major Disney Fan! My all-time preferito Disney Movie is The Little Mermaid, Walt Disney's 28th full-lenght animated classic from 1989. I just Amore all the characters in the movie, the songs, the score and the animation. I grew up with Mermaid, it was the first Disney Movie I saw, so there's definitely nostalgic reasons as well, I'm not gonna deny that! I can always watch the movie and my mood goes up 100%! It never fails to amaze me. Also, the voice actors in this movie is spetacular! Jodi Benson is great as Ariel and even greater as...

Okay so some of te might have read link. At the time, it seemed to me like there was a group of very intolerant users who would only be offended if I wrote such an article. (Weird, I know, since many people write this articolo but I still didn't want the tension o drama.) Since I wasn't sure how to write a "physically beautiful" lista without offending anyone, I didn't write that articolo and wrote one that I thought had better ideals: an complessivamente, generale attraction with looks, personality and demeanor combined. That being said, I do Amore the fairy tale versions of Princesses who were always the "most...

As I mentioned in its first part that this articolo is for those princesses who got their wedding in original o a sequel. I have re-imagined the gowns for all the princesses as honestly, I don't quite like the ones Disney has shown. The dresses lacks the effort as much as they deserve in my opinion. A princess wedding toga, abito should be thoroughly thought through and designed. Cinderella's and Mulan's are da far the only wedding dress that actually fits their personality the most, in my opinion.

So here's my selection of the re-imagined wedding gowns for the remaining princesses.

Okay so I have read multiple places on here that "Ariel just left her family for some guy she barely knew" and variations thereof. I coincidentally enough just watched this film within the last mese and remember it very freshly so I would like to contribute my opinion on this matter. First though, I would like to remind people: These Disney Princess films do not take place in a modern time and setting. Most of them take place over a 100 years fa and are during a time when most people were dead da 40 and half weren't even making it that long. To put it in perspective, the equivalent of a woman...
