I admit I was expecting the Lottie one too. I really wasn't expecting Lottie to be so kind and selfless when I first saw the movie - I thought she'd have a go at Tiana for messing up the food at the party.

Also the one about Gothel. I am like Straggy where I questioned Lottie at points.

maryksand picked Gothel teaches kids that there are other forms of abuse besides physical:
Despite the numerous and objective flaws of PaTF as a movie, it definitely and without any doubt deserves a credit for coming up with a heroine who wasn't the main protagonist and was privileged/representator of a high social class while remaining a kind hearted person and a good friend to the protagonist who represented a lower social status instead of being portrayed as a cliched vengeful spoiled girl who's living off her father's money and plots against a hardworking and determined Tiana. I was definitely pleasantly surprized that Charlotte being painted as wealthy heartless female who would backstab her best friend never happened in the movie (at least there actually was something to be pleasantly surprized with despite the disappointment regarding a lot of other aspects of PaTF).

Anyway, I'll always apploud Disney for coming up with a villian like Gothel who represented both bad parenting and manipulative, emotionally abusive and oppressive tendencies that unfortunately a lot of young people have to endure from the side of their own parents and at the same time her status of a villiant wasn't obvious to the protagonist of the movie (Rapunzel) untill a certain point. Granted, prior to Tangled Disney already made definite attempts to address the issue of emotional abuse and mistreatment through Cinderella, but the difference is that Cinderella was fully aware of Lady Tremaine's oppressive ways and the fact that her stepmother never cared nor had any sort of motherly love for her as opposed to Rapunzel who was raised in ignorant bliss believing that Gothel's brainwashing and intentional harm she caused to Rapunzel's psychological condition and self worth while telling her misguided and frightening stories about the world and humiliating things about herself ("chubby", "naive", not good enough to ever be accepted or become an active and productive member of society because people will "eat her up alive" for being unworthy) were nothing but a concern of a loving mother and Gothel's attempts to keep her "safe and sound". The issue of entirely depending on your passive aggressive parent and Stocholm Syndrom that Rapunzel got to work through and managed to overcome eventually is one of the strongest points of Tangled.
