FlightofFantasy picked Shang:
He comes to see the error of his ways, but for most of the movie he has a pretty low opinion of women.

I agree with FlightofFantasy ...It was how he was raised and what they believed was right in his culture so accepting Mulan as an equal is very hard for him...

Idk, I always liked how in the end when Chi Fu goes 'She's a woman' and Shang goes 'She's a hero', instead of saying 'BUT she's a hero' or 'AND she's a hero', like the two are mutually exclusive, he's saying it doesnt matter, its the same thing. And I really don't see how he has a low opinion of women repeated throughout the film, besides the 'did they send me daughters, when i asked for sons'?? I always thought when Mulan was revealed he wasn't angry that she was a woman, but angry that she betrayed his trust.
Then there's Beast who assumes that just because Belle is a beautiful woman she won't love him.

I agree with princesslullaby.
I'm going to quote the Nostalgia Chick here: Shang grew up in a time where men and women had very different roles, so it's nice to see that he actually got over his culturally-imposed prejudice. In the end, he knows what Mulan is really like, and he still comes a-knocking.
He might have said "did they send me daughters when I asked for sons" in the beginning, but other than that, we really don't see him do or say anything else that could really be considered biased, especially not for the way he had been taught to think. We don't see him joining in with the men singing about how they want trophy wives in "A Girl Worth Fighting For." And in the end, he falls for Mulan because she is everything he had been taught a woman should not be- intelligent, brave, she stood up for herself, she had strong convictions. He actually respected her, which is more than I can say for most of the princes.
I've already stated my reasons for Phillip.

Yeah. I mean, Shang isn't as good as a prince who DOESN'T have gender expectations, but he shows vast improvement. Which is great.

As I explained in my last post, I feel as if he objectifies Aurora a bit too much.

I adore him and I love Phillip/Aurora as a couple, but he is a bit too forceful when they first meet.

I really adore Shang, and it isn't his fault, but I don't even think that his opinion of woman in general does change that much...his opinion of MULAN does, but that doesn't necessarily equal him turning into a full blown female rights supporter. Just pay attention how different he treats her when he knows that she is a girl...the way he shoves her behind him, even though he knows that she is a trained soldier.

I agree with princesslullaby and rhythmicmagic. Beside I think his opinion of all women change, he never thought women were brainless, only that they couldn't be a soldier. During the movie he had way better opinion than other men or matcmaker.
