It doesn't bother me because they fit the characters really well.

I never really think about it while watching the movie so it truly doesn't bother me.

If the voices fit, I don't mind who voices them!

Which celebrities? The only celebrity to voice DPs are Kristen Bell and Mandy Moore. It does bother me a bit because they sound a bit modern.

^^That. Especially Elsa's. Idina's singing voice didn't fit her at ALL. Too modern and too strong. Rapunzel's is also too modern but in a more Taylor Swift-y way.

^ Idina is a Broadway star. What makes you think her voice is modern? Just wondering. Besides she isn't much of a celebrity so she doesn't really count here. She wasn't known before Frozen, only in Broadway. And why is "strong" bad?

Surprisingly, I'd only known of Idina. Is seen Mandy, but didn't realize it was her. As for Kristen, I had never heard of her lol. It doesn't bother me though.

Well I only hear about Kristen and Mandy Moore after they became DPs so they are not so well known for me. And Idina wasn't even a celebrity. Just well known in Broadway. I was lucky that I found out about her as the voice of Elsa and now I am a Broadway and Idina fan.

Celebrity =/= voice actor.

In fact, most celebrities did not get that way by voice acting, due to the stigma against animation. Plus, some voices just sound better recorded than others. There's a certain type of acting that requires throwing one's acting into the inflections of their voice rather than the expressions on their face, the emotion in their eyes, or the gestures of their body. Most big-name celebrities haven't learned to do that, and you can tell with how flat and average their voices sound in such an expressive animated movie.

Totally borrowing what the Nostalgia Critic said in his Tangled review, but some great voice actors sound so perfect recorded and meld their voices into their animated characters so perfectly that you can't imagine one without the other. Like, Vincent Price's performance as Rattigan. (He was a great live action AND voice actor.) There are others, like Many Moore, where you see the animated character talking, but what you hear is just a person talking into a microphone. Or the voice feels disconnected from the character and vice-versa.

I give Kristen Bell (voice of Anna) a pass because she clearly practiced before she started recording Anna. I've watched live-action roles of hers from both before and after the film. After Frozen, she clearly puts more acting into her voice than before, so I know she worked hard to improve her voice-acting for the movie.

Basically, most people would never say you should take an actor who has little to no experience or talent acting with facial expressions and then put them in front of the camera for a live-action performance.

So, how come most people think it's okay to take an actor who has little to no experience or talent acting with inflections in their voice, and put them in front of a microphone for an audio recorded, visually animated performance?

It never bothered me. I actually like the modern DP's voices and I think they fit them really well, especially Elsa. Elsa is a queen and she is older than all the other princesses so she's supposed to sound wise and mature. I think Idina Menzel does a good job for Elsa. When she's singing Let it Go, you can hear the emotion in her voice and as the song gets happier and more lively, so does her voice.

As for Rapunzel and Anna, I think their voice actresses do a really good job too. They're both supposed to be happy and energetic characters, and their voices fit perfectly. Of course, Anna's voice is louder and more enthusiastic.

How are people not bothered by the fact that non-voice actors are taking voice-acting roles??

^ Are there really people who are just voice-actors? I think Broadway performers do a great job with voice acting. Tiana's voice actress and Elsa's voice actress are Broadway performers and do a great job with voice acting because it's closer to what they do on Broadway than i movies. Poca's and Jasmine's singing voices are also Broadway performer but they are just singing voices so I'm not counting them. Kristen Bell has been in Broadway a few times. So to me, Broadway performers do a great job with voice acting because it's similar to what they do on stage.
And I don't think Idina was really celebrity at that time. She was and is Broadway-known not Hollywood-known. And as far as I know Mandy Moore sn't much of a celebrity either.

Doesn't really matter as long as their voice fits the character. Like Mandy Moore with Rapunzel and Idina Menzel, who was a Broadway star, with Elsa.

I don't care about how famous they are, as long as they are good voice actors.
