Sorry for no images, but I just couldn't find any good ones that would look well in the small format.

I like fairy tales. A stupid amount of 'modern' and 'progressive' messages are going to be thrown in anyway. can we at least have the settings stay old?

I actually made a fanfic like this for the DPs. :D I'd love to see it.

I wouldn't mind. What's wrong with a film set in the modern time, I mean, we do all live in this time period and we don't really mind it. I like that they made Big Hero 6 set in our time instead of long ago like most of the other Disney films, not that I don't like films set in the past, because I do but a modern story is a nice change of pace and brings more variety to the lineup, maybe then they wouldn't used the same, now tired DP formula and think of something new. Disney magic doesn't come from the time period it's set in but from the film being done well wiith all the right elements.

Exactly, I felt Big Hero 6 was filled with the usual "Disney magic" despite taking place in the future.

It depends. I don't know if I could take the hard realism from a princess movie, having it all mixed with magic, and still come out feeling warm on the inside. The last time Disney succeeded with the "realism" technique in a Disney Princess movie, that was Mulan. Every time Disney has done this with a non-DP movie, it has triumphed by leaps and bounds. But with the DP movies that are more based in actual settings ( Mulan, Pocahontas, and The Princess and The Frog come to mind), actual history was manipulated to allow the princess to still be a Disney-fied princess dunked in the "realistic" atmosphere. Now, those movies aren't bad movies. Mulan is a cult favorite, because it has very few magical moments--- no fairies, witches, talking trees, ice powers, true love's kiss, etc. (Besides the ancestors coming back from the dead, momentarily, and Mushu, the movie is devoid of any really magical input to save the day). The other two movies ( Pocahontas and TPATF) keep the magical overtone with the realism running right alongside it, and they are just okay movies in my opinion. I feel like this is because one moment is clearly fantasy, while the next moment certainly isn't magical at all, and the overall result is a jarring mix.

Besides, I kinda watch movies to get away from "the real world's realism."

Tangled, Frozen, Brave and PATF already feel pretty modern to me.

Realism for the win! Yeah, I'm more of a sci-fi nerd than I am a fairytale fanatic...

Frozen and Tangled are not modern! Simply mistakes of nature in an alternate time-line.
