CGI design weirds me out. And I think it affects how I relate to the characters.
Also, CGI movies are the newest ones, where the humor is forced and the dialogue is way too current. They're going to be horribly dated in a decade.

People have complained about the Genie's jokes sounding dated. I bring this up... because no one has been able to match Robin Williams's delivery in years and years and years. The humor might be dated now, but it was Robin Williams's delivery which "sold" the movie, Aladdin. The last comedian to do something on this same level was Eddie Murphy in Mulan. But the new movies RELY TOO MUCH on sight gags. The Genie connected with people because he was a character in his own right. Mushu was a character in his own right. The new movies are falling flat because plenty of time is spent on the animation backdrops, glittery dresses, modern lingo, and over-the-top "wow" moments--- the ice palace in Frozen, the bouncing red curls and deep gloomy forests in Brave, the minute details of quaintness and the glowing lanterns in Tangled, the "Modernizing" of the Disney brand through the continuous use of today's language spoken by every character which started in The Princess and The Frog --- BUT there is precious little character development occurring for both the primary characters and the secondary characters. Simply put, THERE IS LESS AND EVEN LESS STORY HAPPENING. And the delivery of funny elements is about as effective as a whoopee cushion. Olaf, queer and nice, and the Snowgies are not nearly as laugh out loud funny as the Genie, Mushu, Sebastian, Lumiere and Cogsworth ARE decades later. I won't ever love Olaf, like I do the Genie. And I've got the same problem with the newest princesses, namely lots of razzle-dazzle-- but wandering around in the "dissonance" of making them "relateable" and "feminist symbols." If you spent less time on the CGI effects, and less time worrying over "how feminist your princesses can become," then MAYBE you could give your story and characters the royal treatment, and provide them with some dimension, Disney. Because, right now, the story itself is MISSING. Just saying.

^ I dunno, I think Aladdin was really into gags, but they weren't especially dated. Or not in the way something like Hercules is (and that movie has aged horribly. I saw it for the first time in years recently and I couldn't even finish it.) That movie just screams "90s" -- I feel like many of these newer films have the same problem, and they will be painful to watch in a decade. (looking at YOU, Frozen.) I didn't really see that problem in PATF, and I think they tried to avoid it because it's a historical piece, but I guess I'll have to watch it again to be sure. :)

I found that the Modern stuff started in TPATF, but it was very subtle. The smooth-talking Facilier, and the fast-talking Naveen both speak in Modern language. So does Tiana, a bit. The same thing happened in Tangled, only a little more. Flynn is a motor-mouth, and his vocabulary is all modern lingo. By Brave, the modern idioms were being delivered with a Scottish accent, but they were right in your face. And by Frozen...it was a no holds barred arrested-development feeling: "this movie is more of an improvement than anything else in the DP lineup, because romance is dated and bad, and being alone without a man is better. If your own family can save you, it's BETTER than if a prince/man can save you." HUH??? That's where I began to feel weirded out by the conflicting messages Disney was apparently embracing. But that's just my observation. lol. :o

Hercules has gags, but it was not "billed" as a princess movie, so that helps ( me, I guess); I find it funnier than most of the Disney Princesses movies, which 9 times out of 10 take themselves way too seriously.

I don't know. I like both, but I'll go with the 3D princess because they wouldn't get as much votes.

I really prefer the 2D girls. Not that I think the CGI princesses are bad (except maybe one of them), but the older princesses just appeal to me more, both because of their animation and personalities.
