A good 95% of the time, yes. I mean, if one doesn't know Disney movies that well, then I can let it pass. But when one claims to love Disney and knows the movies and characters and stuff, then yeah, I get annoyed.
@MaidofOrleans: It's Sleeping Beauty, one of the most famous fairytales of all time. Pretty sure it's well-known (or at least, it should be well known).
@hatelarxene yes the fairytale is well known, but I hardly ever hear anyone talk about the film. Anytime I bring it up when I'm talking with people they will, almost without fail, have to ask about the name of the main character. The film wasn't a huge success when it was first released and, though it is somewhat better known today, people are much more likely to have seen Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast.
It drives me insane! When I mention Aurora people either give me a confused look or they say: "Who's Aurora?" As MaidofOrleans said, the movie isn't super well known so that is probably why a lot of people don't know her name is Aurora.
Meh, I can understand why people don't really know it. She's called Rose more in the movie than she is Aurora anyway. It's like people referring to Eugene as Flynn, even though we know his real name.
@Aang_Lite; I just like to point out that, calling Aurora Rose is one thing, calling her Sleeping Beauty is another. She's called Rose quite a few times in the movie, so that's understandable why people may call her Rose. However, no one ever calls Aurora Sleeping Beauty....They may say she's a sleeping beauty, but never Sleeping Beauty as if it's her name.
It only really bothers me when it comes to those super excitable Disney fans who throw a shit-fit whenever you refer to their precious Elsa as "princess" instead of queen. According to them that depowers her greatly. *shrug*
A little. I and my friends used to call her sleeping beauty when we didn't know her name. We also used to call her Rose because we had a book where her name was Rose. Now I'll probably correct someone who would call her sleeping beauty.
It does annoy me when people don't know her name. Most people I'm around don't know either of her names. My two youngest siblings and my mom who share my love of Disney are the exceptions though. My best friend tries for my sake but she needs a movication. I have, however, educated my best friend daughter. Telling her all the DP's names, their movies, and anything to do with them. She is turning 5 and can tell me who almost all the DP's are by sight and she does know Aurora by Aurora and Briar-Rose.
Some Disney fans (mostly tumblr ones or on other Frozen-loving sites) will flip out if you refer to their beloved Elsa as a princess instead of a queen but call Aurora by her movie's title, as if Sleeping Beauty is any kind of name. Pfft. It's like calling Ariel Little Mermaid or Tiana Princess.
