i never liked Keira that much, and haven't read P&P yet so..

Two reasons:
1. She is my favorite
2. don´t know the other one.

I love Belle, but Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel, one of my favorite movies and Keria is one of my favorite actresses! Sorry Belle :(

I love Belle but I love Elizabeth Bennet more. I absolutely love Pride and Prejudice. Especially the older version.;) On the night before my friends wedding instead of going out and partying, we stayed in and watched Pride and Prejudice (the 6 hour version). And the novel is really good too. I own a huge book with all of Jane Austens novels in it.

I hate both of them. I just happen to hate Lizzie less.

We were forced to study Pride and Prejudice in English last year, despite the protests of most of the class that there are a bunch of pre-1914 novels that are actually interesting. So we spent all our lessons watching both this and the '95 TV series {the one with Colin Firth} totally ripping the shit out of it. Lizzie is so fucking stubborn. FFFF. She's lucky men are offering her such wonderful lives, and she turns them all down like she's some sort of fucking messiah. I love Keira Knightley but really? Ick, no.

I haven't seen the movie for Pride & Prejudice but I've read the book and I adore Elizabeth.

I just realized Kiera Knightly plays both Elizabeth Bennett and Elizabeth Swann... heh :P

I might see the movie one day, but my mom read me a passage once (she's an Austin fangirl, she has a leather bound version of her complete works and everything) and I honestly don't have the patience for that kind of sophisticated writing. Not that it's not fantastic, I love the plot and idea behind it, but they spent a long paragraph basically saying "maybe he was coming over because he liked her, or maybe he had nothing better to do". I was almost screaming "GET TO THE POINT ALREADY!". Sure, I'll try it one day, but for now I'll stick with watching the movie if I get the chance.

I admit, I used to have Straggy's opinion. I thought it was boring, and the writing came across as snotty and uppity. After I saw the 2005 movie, I absolutely fell in love with that "world". A time where you sat down with your family and ate a nice meal. A time where you have "tea time". A time where men were gentlemen, and bowed. I don't know...I guess I like it because I find it romantic and refreshing since our world today it totally different. Instead of opening doors for you, or bowing when you first meet, guys can't take their eyes off your chest, and immediately try to get in your britches.

^ Romantic and refreshing? Pfft. Even the story itself is stupidly idealistic. Georgian Britain was a shitty place to live unless you were as rich as Darcy.

^ We don't have traditions like that here in the US Straggy, so yeah, it was a bit refreshing because I had never really thought much about stuff like that. It just seemed nice that people were so proper. I grew up in a SMALL (we had 1 traffic light) small town...the main pickup line was "load up in the truck bitch", and the dates consisted of riding around back roads. So yes, I find that kind of stuff romantic. Don't get me wrong, I had some good times on those backroads ;) but still...

Second off, Lizzie IS stubborn. Women in that time could not afford to marry for love. That's the point. Her parents needed her to marry a rich man for their own sake. Anyone else would have taken the marriage and been thankful for having such a comfortable life. She just throws it back in their face. And not only that, but when she refuses Darcy, the things she says are LOW. He pretty obviously cares about her, and she tears it apart like he isn't even a person.

I agree with ppv about EVERYTHING she's said.

Both heroines are from masterpieces in their own fields. I love Lizzy a lot but Belle is a pretty hard girl to beat in my books.

I'm always shocked to see people criticise Jane Austen, you have no idea about what a great piece of literature Pride & Prejudice is. But then I remember the new breed of people who dislike anything that has a big fan base, constantly trying to go against the grain rather than study and appreciate what they truly like. But meh, their loss.
