What was the connection between Mickey and Rose?

I watched both series 1 and 2 but it's been a while and I have never grasped the concept. Was Mickey her friend? Boyfriend? o just a guy who had crush on her but she was in Amore with the Doctor?

Mickey used to be Rose's boyfriend, but Rose was not particularly happy with him, but she enjoys his friendship and companionship nonetheless. Their relationship doesn't have a clear ending, though, leaving off at the finale of Season 2, it may well not have. Rose was always più interested in The Doctor, since they alone could share adventures through all of time and space.
