People often point out that Elsa from Frozen is basically a superhero. She has superpowers and has saved those in need. The thought of Elsa being like a superhero is a fun thought. However, what if that thought became something real? What if Elsa became a superhero?
Elsa as a superhero might sound a bit strange. However, if done right, I think it could be amazing. I think there is a particular superhero franchise that would suit Elsa. That franchise is the X-Men franchise.
The X-Men franchise centers around mutants being treated unfairly about humans who are afraid of them. A lot of mutants feel they have to hide their mutant abilities from the world. Magneto leads a group of mutants that harm the humans that stood in their way. Professor X, who founded the X-Men, trains mutants to use their powers to protect both mutants and humans. He believes that there will come a time where mutants and humans can all get along.
As for Elsa, she was born with ice powers. At first, she was open with her powers. However, after an accident endangered Anna, Elsa felt like she had to keep her powers a secret from everybody. On the giorno of Elsa's coronation, Elsa accidentally reveals her powers to the world. This leads to people being afraid of her. Elsa feels like she has to run and hide from everyone. However, Elsa learns to use her powers for good. While some people, such as the Duke of Weselton, don't trust her, Elsa's sister and several others embrace Elsa for who she is.
I think that making Elsa's powers a mutation would be a great way to explain where her powers came from. I believe her tragic backstory, complex development and special abilities would make her a perfect fit for the X-Men. In fact, the X-Men already have a character with ice powers in the team.
My idea of how to incorporate Elsa into the X-Men franchise:
In a modern retelling of Frozen, Elsa was born with mutant powers. She is pressured into hiding her powers during her childhood. However, when Elsa's a young adult, her powers get revealed. After the Duke of Weselton makes the people of Arendelle turn against Elsa, Elsa runs away and attempts to hide in her ice castle.
One day, Professor X pays a visit to her ice castle. He comforts Elsa da telling her that there are people just like her. After convincing Elsa to have faith in humanity, she accepts his offer to stay at his school for gifted youngsters. While there, Professor X shows Elsa how to control her powers. He tells her that her powers are not a curse. He tells her that her powers can be used to saved mutants and humans that need her help.
After months of training, Elsa briefly returns to Arendelle, so she can reunite with Anna. While there, Elsa saves Arendelle from one of Magneto's attacks. After winning back the support of a lot of people, Elsa is asked to stay as the ruler, but she realizes that she belongs with the X-Men. She makes Anna the new ruler and returns to Professor X's place. Professor X makes her an official member of the X-Men. Elsa is placed on a mission with Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Gambit and Wolverine. Most of the X-Men try to make Elsa feel welcomed, but Wolverine has his doubts about a former princess being a good addition to the team. However, after Elsa helps save Wolverine from being defeated da Sabretooth, Wolverine decides to start respecting her. As time goes on, Elsa learns to Amore both her original family and her new family of superpowered teammates.
