10 things we learnt about Ramsay Snow actor Iwan Rheon

Another Snow, but a totally different character. When Rheon first found out he was cast, he was just given the character of "Boy". The character of Ramsay Snow is so significant in the books, producers didn\'t want people to know who had been cast.
"I wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone about it from the beginning of filming to the broadcast of the end of season three, I was supposed to say to everyone, "oh my character is Boy", which was really embarrassing.
"I auditioned for the pilot of Game of Thrones, and was down to the last two for Jon Snow, so I guess they knew me. But Ramsay is the complete polar opposite. In my mind, I secretly thought it was Ramsay."
2. The Game of Thrones extras aren\'t treated properly - in his opinion
"I’ve had some dark days out there on those hills. You can see Scotland. The winds coming in November, you’re so cold your mouth starts to seize up, you’re getting blown around by the wind, it\'s like, are we actually doing this now? You\'re mad.
"But then you look down and the poor extras in little blankets, no protection. They\'re not looked after properly, it’s not really the vibe. It\'s bloody cold sometimes. I love it, but I like working in studios."
Although his upbringing clearly didn\'t help: "What’s weird about Ramsay is there is obviously something wrong with him and there always has been. I don’t think you can learn that kind of behaviour.
"If you are not nurtured correctly it can come out of you but I think he was a little s--- anyway. The nature-nurture argument, its obviously a bit of both, but nurture could have helped a lot. But it didn’t happen so he’s just a complete monster.
"He’s a very intriguing character. In season 3, it’s who the hell is this guy, he’s a complete nutter. Then when his dad comes into it you realise he’s got daddy issues! Very interesting, I find him fascinating, he’s a really strange person"
4. Sometimes, he really hates playing him in the some scenes
"Some of the things he does really disturb me. I worry about the preparation, it’s not like learning it at home, it\'s \'Oh god, this is horrible.\'
Then gearing myself up to do it, and then when I get on the set to do it, in my trailer, that day, I really don’t want to do it. And then you’ve got to slap yourself and say "come on, it’s not real, it’s not real, just do it."
I had a real moment like that this year, I had to really pull myself together. It’s all part of how you prepare I suppose but you very rarely play a character that’s so f----- up as him. He enjoys doing stuff, he’s really messed up… it’s like Dennis the Menace and the Joker from Batman together."
5. But removing Theon Greyjoy\'s fingernails was totally fine
"Weirdly the finger stuff didn’t bother me. It was so technical. That shot uses a fake finger and it’s so technical: \'can you hold the knife a bit higher, I just want to get the incision in\' and they’ve explained to me how it works. It\'s so staged, it doesn’t feel real, it’s not natural."
• Game of Thrones, season 5 premiere: talking points
"The music is mine, that’s me. The acting, I really enjoy it. I love doing it, it’s a fantastic job, I get to do lots of interesting things and go lovely places and worked with really cool people but it is a job, that’s what I do for money.
"Going into the studio to record was a holiday for me. It’s fun, I really love it. it’s totally within my control, whereas acting is often out of my control, there’s a script, there’s a director, you shoot it, and then they edit it and they can change the story in the edit room. You can’t do that with an acoustic song." Rheon\'s first album, Dinard, a collection of songs he\'s written and played on acoustic guitar, is out on April 20.
Well, those not written about his girlfriend - he named the album after the town in which they first met.
"I am soppy man. I don’t like cheesy love songs but if it’s about a specific moment or feeling it’s different. I’m not one to write love songs, I hate them, if it’s a love song it’s got to be about something, it’s got to be slightly different to my warped tastes, I hate that love sickening stuff."
"I had one of those recorders with a little microphone and I had football cards and I used to record myself doing commentary to imaginary football games, and singing."
"The method, Strasberg stuff, actually going there yourself, which is really dangerous, so many people get f----- up, spend half an hour looking at a wall in order to find some emotional memory, using their mother dying as a trigger to make them feel something.
"The method is self-indulgent and selfish, cos if you’re working with an actor like that, they’re not going to change anything because of what you are doing, it’s a self-involved performance, no give and take, it’s boring.
"It\'s meant to be fun, it’s called playing, its pretend, it’s like kids playing Cowboys and Indians. That’s what acting is to me."
"He’s gonna get one hell of a horrendous death. Imminent death. I just hope it’s not this year, because I’ve just bought a flat. I need him to keep doing terrible things until I’ve paid for it!
"Next year, fine. I’m really looking forward to it. It’s weird, because everyone’s anticipating season five, but I feel like that’s done, next! I won’t be doing that for a while. I don’t even know if I’m in it."
