I thought it was a nice twist but since it didn't go anywhere it was pointless

@BB2010 If Jon had ended upon the throne or with some other important role to play, it would have made sense. But, seeing how it concluded, it's plain to see it was used as a plot device for Dany's plunge into paranoia and madness, and nothing more. I'd rather have seen Jon die in a memorable manner in one of the battles, rather than ending up as he did - right back where he started in the arse end of nowhere.

Not perfect, but it made sense and could've led to great things... but... y'know.

jon snow is azor ahai havent ya'll been paying attention? (its all right though) he already created light bringer, and light bringer was hes army, and the lion was cersei (because he failed to take her to hes side) but the third time was a charm because "lightbringer" Was daenerys army and daenerys herself and her dragons (She was fire) and the first part of the prophecy was the wildings (you know back where they fought with the undead where it had water and they had to cross), i like how nobody realized this, come on guys but like i said its okay but oh well its so fucking obvious now lmao the part of of the prophecy where he creates lightbringer is already completed (jon snows weapon lightbringer aka, azor ahai and hes sword lightbringer) and it was jon snows army...so obvious now xD

jon snow already created lightbringer.....its right there....hes azor ahai, and i am glad they revealed about who hes father was and mother because if not he wouldnt be half targaryen and half stark he wouldnt fit "ice and fire" from the prophecy and, he wouldnt be the prince that was promised and azor ahai, and remember something....."prince that was promised" never said to be king....he gave up everything to save the world, isnt it fucking obvious hes azor ahai? and he already crafted lightbringer? its right there. but i am not gonna say anything else....because i already did said everything.... and something last daenerys was nissa nissa and the darkness......~

@DarkSarcasm I really hated him ending up back at the flipping Wall! WTF was he supposed to do there for the rest of his life? The Walkers are gone, the Northerners are at peace with the Wildlings, and no other specific threat was mentioned, so there's no need for the Night's Watch anymore - except, maybe to serve as a glorified penal colony. He had to die and be resurrected to get away from the place before. I'd much rather he died in the battle saving Arya. than having him end up where he did. Ideally, he should have done his duty and fought Dany for the throne after what happened in KL - not for himself, but for the good of the people; that way it'd have fitted his character. Maybe if there had been ten episodes instead of six, that could have happened.

@Vagos Like you, a lot of people are still theorising that he was Azor Ahai, and it's a good theory. The only problem is, the show is over, and sadly, all the theories for the show are now defunct, unless the showrunners confirm them, that is. The theories were cool to put back and forth between seasons, but it's done now, and as it wasn't made explicitly clear, and all we have to go on are tenuous connections we've made, they're, sadly, still only theories. I actually think that the showrunners brushed the Azor Ahai prophecy aside like they did so many other things. I think we should look forward to the books now. :)

I like to think that the "lifetime sentence" was a joke to appease the Unsullied, and that Jon went to live among the Free Folk.

I think they just decided it would take up too much time, tbh, because they wanted to wrap as quickly as possible. HBO was prepared to give them longer, but Benioff and Weiss declined the offer. They were chomping at the bit to go on to bigger projects, so I think they just ditched anything that would make the saga longer and metaphorically sprinted towards the finish line. Azor Ahai wasn't the only thing left unanswered.... Maybe, if they had handed the reins over to new showrunners to make the remainder of the series we'd have had a more satisfying season, and we'd be looking forward to season 9 now. Instead, we were left with a rubbish, rushed ending.

^ That's why I said the character of Jon Snow was used as a plot device. Because GRRM hasn't finished the books yet, and had only given Weiss and Benioff a brief outline - and an outline isn't a fully fleshed out plot, and he could always changed his mind, and might have done so already - I believe that they cobbled the R+L=J plot together and had Dany fall in love with him, then have the truth revealed, only as a means to (A) send her spiraling into full-blown paranoia that escalates into a fanatic madness, and (B) so as that they could give the Dany x Jon fans a tragically romantic conclusion to both of their journeys. I never liked that they made the Jon x Dany thing canon either - that was just fanservice too, IMO. They haven't even met in the books yet.

^I agree with Dasm. I too think it was a way to get the Unsullied off Jon's ass and let him serve a "lifetime sentence". He's living with the Free Folk now. He's happy and that's all that matters. It was the happiest he's ever been when he was with them. That's where he belongs.

^ Have you read the books? There already are massive differences. For example, in the books, there already is Prince Aegon Targaryen, the son of Rhaegar and his wife Elia Martell (too much to go into, but apparently he wasn't murdered by the Mountain like everyone thinks he was), who's been living as Young Griff in Essos with Jon Connington, Rhaegar's friend who served the Targaryens. He was also Aerys' Hand of the King during Robert's Rebellion. So, seeing as Prince Aegon exists already in the books, Jon Snow definitely isn't him. Not saying he couldn't be Rhaegar and Lyanna's son, but he wouldn't be heir to anything, even if he was, because Aegon would be his older brother.

^ i was honestly thinking about reading the books but i am afraid things will go far more worse than the tv series, i mean i dont know in the tv series at least the starks are happy and jon is alive, what if everything goes to shieeeeeet lmao and mostly all characters die though? Dx i mean if both the tv series and the books are different its just so..........ugh its like "Who do you like more the tv series or the books" instead of following the main story T_T

^ There are quite a few things that are the same, but in the books there are more characters, and more interesting subplots, and the book characters aren't as old as the show characters. For example, Dany was only thirteen when she married Drogo in the books, and Jon was fourteen, and Bran seven at the start. There's also two more Tyrell brothers, Willas and Garlan; and Robb didn't marry Talisa, because she doesn't exist in the books. He married a girl called Jeyne Westerling instead, who wasn't pregnant and who didn't die at the Red Wedding. Jon remains dead in the books too. And as for his parents,it's more or less accepted that Ned is his father so far in the books, but they specuate over his mother. Catelyn suspects it's Ashara Dayne, as does Cersei, because of rumours spread by the soldiers during the rebellion. But other people think his mother was a common woman. I think though that he will be brought back from the dead in bookverse. :)

^ so they'res actually more characters and more interesting subplots? interesting and also wtf daenerys with drogo only thirteen? lmao wtf XD pedophille drogo....xD i am suprised that rob married a complete different girl tbh so i guess like you said the red wedding really didnt exist, which is a bit strange, maybe something will happen later on, and i see that jon snow is different do you think jons mother is actually a targaryen? like actually a targaryen again? xD and honestly maybe hes dead forever, i just dont know. nobody does.....

Disliked it when it first aired, LOVED what they did with it. Absolutely genius storytelling and trope flipping. S8 has its issues in pacing and whatnot, but the overall story arc and ending is great.

Jon never liked being defined by his birth and instead wanted to be defined by his actions. That isn’t going to change because he’s the king, a role that terrifies him and he wants nothing to do with, instead of a bastard. You can’t try to force someone who truly DOES NOT want to be king onto the throne, and this shows why. He’s never been raised for it, he isn’t prepared for it, the whole idea is terrifying and overwhelming. It’s a very human reaction for him.

At the same time, the presence of a competitor absolutely helps drive Dany over the edge because she’s no longer the last Targaryen or the true heir. She lost everything in pursuit of a throne she probably can’t get and will certainly never hold, as people will always pick Jon as King over her despite him not wanting that throne in any way, shape, or form. He’s not going to marry her, so they can’t rule together. Despite the seeming promise of a Targaryen restoration, Jon’s claim ends up being the destruction of the Targaryen house and line.

I really loved it. Clever flip of an age-old fantasy trope that’s been in stuff like DAO or LOTR.
