Fierce [Hanna/Ashley] #25: "You don\'t need a leader, you just need each other"

is the "diva" of the group, having taken Alison\'s place as the most popular girl at Rosewood in Alison\'s absence. Flightly, bubble, outgoing, and sometimes air-headed, Hanna has a strong relationship with each of the four Liars, always there to lead a shoulder to cry on.

Prior to Alison\'s death, Hanna was a bulimic girl who Alison frequently mocked for being overweight. Her parents divorced, Hanna lives with her mother, and has a rocky relationship with her father. Though Alison was one of Hanna\'s closest friends, Hanna expresses relief at Alison being dead, having been hurt so often by Alison. Hanna\'s best friend before the series was Mona Vanderwaal; after Alison\'s disappearance, the two transformed themselves from losers to the most popular girls in school.

was born on December 18, 1989. She has been dancing competitively (hip hop, jazz, ballet, tap, and lyrical) since she was two years old, modeling for dance catalogs by the time she was five, along with singing. At age eight, Ashley was pursued by The Ford Modeling Agency; she worked steadily in print. At ten years old, Ashley decided she wanted to pursue acting and went on to do 35 commercials, later graduating to theatrical roles. As she grew up, acting became Ashley\'s main passion and focus. She appeared in several TV show, such as Days of Our Lives and Eastwick, before landing the lead role of Hanna Marin in Pretty Little Liars.

That\'s very odd. Did they ever specify why they changed her to a blonde in the show?

Ashley was cast last - I read somewhere they wanted a blonde as a contrast to the others. (Sasha also auditioned for Hanna.)

Ages ago I saw the possible cast for the 2006 version of the show, and they all looked liked the book characters.

Interesting. I like that Hanna is a blonde. I couldn\'t imagine her not being blonde.

Would love to see that picture if you ever ran across it again.
