She developed the "double life" because she wanted to be able to go to school and have a life like a normal person. She doesn't beleive that she will be treated the same either. People might be her friend just because she is a star. Many of the young singers now live under a microscope...who really wants to live like that?

The reason why no one believes that Miley is Hannah Montana is because Miley is the goofey klutz we see her at home but Hannah is (for the most part) not like that. Rico even says that Miley isn't smart enough to think up an idea like that.
