They could very well be married, but we just never hear about their spouses. The only real important professors were Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape and the DADA proffs each year. I actually rather like to imagine that there's a Mrs. Flitwick out there as cute as her professor husband who always fusses over his robes. It's clear that Snape never got over Lily and he also had very little time for romance, what with being a triple agent and all. And, as stated, Dumbledore was gay, which explains why he wasn't married. I think McGonagall would be a little picky about her life mate. Perhaps no one was ever smart enough for her.
As for the DADA teachers, we have Quirrell, whose main romantic relationship was with a face in the back of his skull. Then there's Lockhart, who was so deeply in Amore with himself, there wasn't any room in his cuore for anyone else. Following Lockhart, we have Lupin, who as we later learn does, in fact, get married. After Lupin, there's Crouch (or Moody), neither of which were married because Crouch was legally dead, and Moody is kind of married to his work. After Crouch/Moody, there was Umbridge, who, let's face it, NO ONE WOULD EVER want to marry for ANY REASON. After Umbridge, there was the unforgettable Slughorn, who was a bit of a hedonist, and therefore I doubt he believed much in the institution of marriage, but I'm sure he had his fair share of flings in his day.
Still, I do believe strongly in Mrs. Flitwick. And perhaps there's also a Mr. Sprout out there too, studying the botanical anomalies of mandrakes in South America. ;)
