roseteaxx Great article! I still dislike him, but it is true that he earned back a shred of respect from me when he felt regret over the wrong he's done. And I guess you are right; he was brave in his own way. Like I said, I still dislike him, but I do like what you're saying here :)

LadyNottingham There are many reasons as to why the Sorting Hat sends someone to a house. I think sometimes people are sorted into a particular house because they NEED to be there. I think Peter Pettigrew belong to this kind of people. He needed to be there - or rather the prophecy needed someone from Gryffindor to betray the Potters and give us the Boy-Who-Lived, in order to work. The Sorting Hat gives me the impression it can be prescient somehow, or it knows about the future. Hence its sending Peter to Gryffindor, where he could "make friends" with James, Sirius and Remus. To better betray the Potters and send Sirius away in Azkaban, several years later. Think of that : without his betrayal as a Secret-Keeper, there would have been no Boy-Who-Lived. He was just an instrument of Destiny. I don't like him, but somehow, I think he was just a puppet in the hands of both Lord Voldemort and Destiny. The way he died - strangled by his own hand - is symbolic too : for once he was acting on his own, he died. He was just that : a puppet, an instrument, without no proper free will, no real choice. Let's do no forget that the issue of choice is essential throughout the whole series. Another one in that category is Severus : he was sent to Slytherin because he needed to be there - Voldemort would not have accepted someone from another house than Slytherin so close to him. Because we all know that despite his first choice to go to Slytherin, Severus could have been sent to Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.

LadyBrock Peter belonged in Gryffindor. That fact doesn't make me like him any better though. Being in Gryffindor doesn't make you automatically somewhat nicer. He was foul when he was a student (a bully), when he was a young man (betrayed his best friends, sent an innocent man to jail, [b]murdered[/b] 12 muggles, joined the death eaters) and as an adult (murdered Cedric, brought Volemort back, etc). Oh and he wasn't a boy when he joined the death eaters. He did that after he left Hogwarts

dobbyssocks I dont like Peter, but he was sort of brave. I mean... he did become an illegal animagius for Remus. He was also loyal to James, Sirius and Remus for a long time. I just think he cared to much about himself to really be a good person

elsafan1010 Peter was brave but loyalty stands with the part you’re first in so it doesn’t really make sense. The reason can be that hat listens to people’s choices, too and he really wanted to get sorted in Gryffindorr
