I wish that whoever voted for Sirius actually commented why.

I was actually going to add Draco as a choice, for fun... But I didn't, obviously :)

I think they were both equally arrogant- their heads were entirely way too big and they thought the world of themselves! But it was always mentioned that Sirius always took it one step too far, especially with the pranks (for example tipping Snape about the Whomping Willow, not thinking about the consequences)! For James arrogance in the beginning was because he was handsome, rich, smart and a Quiddich star, most of these reasons being applied to Sirius as well, BUT James did most of what he did because he thought it would impress Lily- he obviously went the wrong way about doing it, but hey most teenage guys are pretty darn clueless when it comes to wooing a girl they like!
Most of the people who picked James already hate him because he was cruel and took Lily away from Snape. I am not saying that the fifth year incidence at the lake wasn't a very mean thing to do, but Snape wasn't any better! He was extremely threatened by James and was completely immersed in the dark arts at Hogwarts! The hatred was MUTUAL, they both were ready to kill and rip each other apart, Snape wasn't an underdog or the innocent victim that so many people make him out to be!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Snape, and I was one of the very few fans who believed that there was goodness in him even after he killed Dumbledore at the end of Half Blood Prince, while most people hated him for 6 books, and then fell in love with him after Prince's Tale! I get that the love Snape had for Lily was extremely strong, but he had a choice- when Lily asked Snape to pick between her and the dark arts, he PICKED the dark arts, he wanted to be a death eater, and at that time it was more IMPORTANT to him than Lily's friendship, and let me mention that Lily & James didn't come about until 2 YEARS later! So no, James was NOT the reason that Lily & Snape didn't get together, and I don't understand why people blame him for that! Snape made the wrong decision, and he didn't realize the severity of his decision until Voldemort targeted the Potters- that's when he switched, and yes it was Lily's love that made him turn to the right side, but why blame James Potter and his arrogance for everything that went wrong with Snape & Lily.
Lily was NOT an idiot, she fell in LOVE with James, and she was NEVER in love with Snape! I absolutely hate when people say that James didn't love Lily- are you for real? Sure the guy went the wrong way pursuing her in the beginning, but he changed FOR HER, to become the guy she could actually love. Both these guys gave up a lot for Lily, the only difference is that Snape was a couple of years too late! Even Snape admitted that James loved Lily, he truly did, and Lily loved him back- she was HAPPY with him.
So yes he was arrogant and pompous and his ego was way too big for his head, but Sirius was no better! They were both the ring leaders of the Marauders for a reason- Sirius was the ladies man, Hogwarts heartthrob, it had to get to his head! But just because we know a lot more about Sirius and Snape and very, very little about James, we start jumping to conclusions and make him seem like the biggest jack ass in the world when he really was just being a teenager! I love all 3 of these characters- James, Sirius and Snape, but I have yet to understand all the hatred for James Potter! I am sure if we had a chapter dedicated to James life and past, we would be able to understand his character much better, but alas we now only have vague facts to deal with, but I, for the life of me will NOT and CANNOT make him the villain of Lily & Snape's story- because he was NOT! Snape lost her all on his own, and yeah he was a teenager with big dreams himself but he chose the service of death eaters rather than his friendship with Lily, while James changed himself to be who Lily wanted!
There is no doubt that Snape loved Lily relentlessly, and he gave up so much for her in the end, but the fact of the matter that most people tend to forget is that James loved Lily too!
I know it is kind of off topic with regards to the pick, but I feel that the main reason that James is winning this is because of a lot of preconceived notions about him rather than just his arrogance!

P.S. I am not trying to start a fight with this or anything, this is MY opinion, and I am fully entitled to have one, so don't hate me for it!

What's this called? Oh, yeah: Napoleon complex. Sirius really didn't have a reason to be arrogant, he was tall, he was handsome, he was rich. James was short and Lily humiliated and rejected him all the time so he tried to compensate that in every possible way. Sirius was rather the aristocratic one who was rather radiating lofty boredom and not arrogance.

James of course, it's pretty obviously and it's well written in the books. But I don't really care I like James much more than Snape.

I still love him though. He's the only character whose arrogance during teen tears isn't understood or forgiven considering the great man hew grew up to be.
