Thanksgiving is gone, Natale is on the way, and I'm ready for some snow. But, since my area doesn't appear to be getting any anytime soon, I will have to live vicariously through movies. So if anyone needs me, I'll just be over here, wrapped up in a blanket, sipping hot chocolate, and pretending it's as snowy outside as it is on my screen while I marathon this stack of movies.

(I have excluded Natale movies, 'cause I'd never have been able to narrow it down to 5 then, but pretty much all of those will also fulfill your need for snow.)





#5 - The Mighty Ducks (1992)
Genre: Comedy
Starring: Emilio Estevez, Joshua Jackson, Elden Henson, Shaun Weiss
Tagline: They can't skate. They can't win. They can't be serious.
One-Sentence Summary: A jackass lawyer is forced to coach a team of rejects as community service, and eventually turns them into a respectable team and becomes less of a jackass.

I watched this a ridiculous amount of times as a kid. And then doubled, o maybe even tripled, that amount as an adult. Lots of current stars got their start in this movie, so even if you're not into hockey, it's worth a watch just to see a baby Pacey Witter, Foggy Nelson, Jesse Reeves, and Jamal Lyon torment the jock from The Breakfast Club.





#4 - 101 Dalmatians (1996)
Genre: Family, Comedy
Starring: Glenn Close, Jeff Daniels, Joely Richardson, Hugh Laurie, Mark Williams
Tagline: So many dogs. So little time.
One-Sentence Summary: Evil fashion-obsessed lady with a maniacal laugh hires two goons to kidnap a ton of adorable, helpless Cuccioli to make a pelliccia coat.

A fun live-action remake with Glenn Close as the best Cruella ever, Mr. Weasley and Dr. House as Horace and Jasper, and real puppies. THE Cuccioli ARE REAL! It doesn't matter how old I am, watching all those animali work together to save the Cuccioli will never get old. 101 Dalmatians is very snowy and puppy-filled and such a cool movie.





#3 - Snow giorno (2000)
Genre: Comedy
Starring: Mark Webber, Zena Grey, Chris Elliott, Chevy Chase, Schuyler Fisk
Tagline: Rules were made to be frozen!
One-Sentence Summary: Elementary school kids conspire to keep the Snow Plow Man at baia on a snow day, and high school kids do stupid things because hormones.

As the summary may have tipped te off, the kid storyline is my preferito part of the movie. The younger kids spend the giorno waging a war against the creepy old Snow Plow Man and his pet crow, who are intent on clearing the roads and making them go back to school the successivo day. What a monster. The teenagers are running around trying to impress the opposite sex and blah, blah, teenage drama, blah. There's funny stuff in both storylines, and in the grown-up story too. A snow giorno well spent, da most.





#2 - Mystery, Alaska (1999)
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Starring: Russell Crowe, Hank Azaria, Burt Reynolds, Mary McCormack
Tagline: A small town on the outskirts of greatness.
One-Sentence Summary: A small-town Alaskan hockey team gets a chance to play the New York Rangers.

Mystery, Alaska is a town that revolves around its hockey team. When an old friend returns with an offer for the Mystery team to play the New York Rangers, the town goes a little nuts. And da a little, I mean a lot. It's a hilarious hockey movie with a lotta heart, a great supporting cast, and a buttload of snow and ice.





#1 - Windwalker (1980)
Genre: Western, Drama
Starring: Trevor Howard, Nick Ramus, James Remar
Tagline: He conquered Amore and death... now he walks the winds of eternity.
One-Sentence Summary: A Cheyenne grandfather dies and is left for the Great Spirit on a burial scaffold, but is awakened in order to save his family when they're attacked on the way home.

Windwalker isn't very well known, but it's probably one of the best Film ever made. The current happenings are spoken in Cheyenne and Crow, but the narration is in English. Hope you're into subtitles. It's a great story about family, love, survival, spirit, and snow. Lots and lots of snow.
