can anyone explain the depressing pictures of sebastian stan in the stills for hat trick?

i noticed that in the promo pics of successivo week's episode "hat trick" sebastian doesnt appear to be happy in the pics. he could be just in character but i would think that if he was he would have like a devilish grin o something lol the pics i'm talking about are the ones with him in his storybrooke attire and he's posing at the camera. one of the pics has him posing with emma. unless that was just him in character i get the feeling he didnt really want to be a part of the show. i'm sorry if i sound really uncool but its just something that i've been noticing. if he was just in character then thats just fine but my point is is that its hard to tell. is he just in character o is he expressing non-interest in being in the show?
