I believe he would be great for many observations and levels. However, I wish I could have chosen you all. Decisions like this make it difficult for me as an individual because you are all such great friends to me and fans. Again, I have chosen a good and caring person. I wish I can run. Well, I don't know what to say. I thought the voters this election were classified and no one will know who voted for who('cause it might be quite distracting and disturbing to our presidential runners here), but I wanted my vote to be counted so here's my comment. No hard feelings to the others. I'm just reminding of a nice, clean voting session.

That's a really good point, candlefairy. I actually just realized that a couple of days ago, but the pick's already up, and it's looking like the results are gonna be the same as the first try, so I figure no harm done if not everyone wants to vote again, and next year hopefully we'll go back to not having to comment.

As someone who has followed politics for several years, I have seen plenty of interesting developments in the run-up to Election Day. Now it's time for one of my own, one that Kowalski's unexpected-detecting device probably would not have seen coming.

This historic election is about to become a little more historic. I have given it a little thought and have made the difficult decision to now stand aside and suspend my bid for re-election. I thank my fine supporters for their votes and well-wishes, but at this time I request that they instead switch their votes to Icicle1penguin. While I look forward to swearing-in whoever wins this election, I think she would make a fine successor.

Thanks again to both my supporters and all who have participated in this election. This is a victory for democracy no matter who wins; Skipper would be proud of you all.

I know this is all for fun but telling everyone to switch their votes for you till Icicle is just......I don't know, just seems kinda unfair for some reason, not sure what that reason is still but still. But I think it would have been better for you to say it something like "but at this time I request that they instead switch their votes to SOMEONE ELSE." That would have just sound more better and not telling us to vote for a certian person. I can see LeonardFan picked Penguinangel, but still, SJF. :\

@Metallica1147: Icicle1penguin was the person I had voted for all along during this second round election, so it is only natural that I would encourage my supporters to go her way. It is very common for a candidate who drops out of an election to endorse someone else who is still running -- that means that they encourage their supporters to change their votes for that person. Every one of my supporters may vote however they may wish, however. What I have done is basically the same as placing a sign on my lawn that says "Vote for Icicle" -- doing so is only a suggestion and not a command.

If you had been the one to drop out instead of me and you made a post that encouraged people to vote for Penguinangel, I would support your right to do that 100%. While I'll admit my decision was a bit unexpected and unorthodox, any candidate is and should be free to withdraw and endorse another.

EDIT: If you still think it's unfair, I'd be glad to buy you a fish coffee to make it up to you. I could probably use a double myself. Heck, fish coffees for everyone -- put it on my tab. :)

@All who asked (or will ask) why I am dropping out: There are a few different reasons behind my decision, some classified. I have actually been considering it for several days. I will say that the elections (plural) have affected me a little more than I would have expected and that I would instead prefer to concentrate my time on other matters. Also, elections in the real world tend to be highly structured and regulated, and it's a bit difficult for someone like me to truly adjust to a "fun"-type election without wanting to write a 10-page legalese manual on how to do it. Lastly, re-election no longer seemed numerically possible, so I figured I'd step aside to open up the field a little while there were still a few days left.

My withdrawal does not mean that I have not enjoyed my role as president for the past many months -- I am deeply honored to have served as such. Nor does it mean that I care about this community any less -- trust me, no one wants to shake the hand of every member of this club more than I do. My withdrawal is simply a personal decision.

@SJF- Ah, I got it. Thanks for clearing it up and sorry for accuseing for you anything. :)

I have been requested to swear-in the new president. I had actually intended on doing this before being asked.

Originally, I was going to use the oath from the U.S. Constitution that U.S. presidents take upon assuming office. However, it's rather short and I like the language of the U.S. federal oath instead. This one is not in the Constitution, but it is used to swear-in people to many federal offices, including the Senate, House of Representatives, the U.S. vice president, and cabinet members. Its text can be found in Title 5 of the U.S. Code:

"I, [NAME], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God."

The elected winner, once the pick closes, should raise their right hand while saying the above oath; they may place their left on a Bible (or perhaps in our case, a PoM DVD or a stuffed penguin toy) if desired.
