I don't know much about samuri, but i'd say go for a story like this:
The plot starts with a samuri, lets call him Bob (for now) since it's shorter. Bob is one of the best samuri until he meets a man trying to overthrow japan. Bob is a poor samuri, and the man offers him money to spy on the army and tell him their weaknesses, which results in te tell me :)
