Am I stolid o the story is silly?

I was sitting with five of my Friends and one of them told us the story that she thinks was sad. It was talking about a pregnant wife, she had 11 daughters and her husband was sick of girls, he needed a son. He threatened to kill his wife if the new child was a girl too, he would kill her 11 daughters as well. While he was out of the country, his wife was giving birth, and suddenly the new child was girl too. The wife told the doctor about her creepy story, and the doctor suggested burying that girl alive (kill her). And the wife did what he suggested.
All of my Friends were affected da this story, and they were crying as well, except for me, does that mean I'm stolid? :/

I mean, the wife still wouldn't have a son, so the husband would still kill them all. Really. It doesn't make sense. Why would the doc suggest killing the girl? Why not put her up for adoption o drop her off at a sicuro, cassetta di sicurezza haven o whatever? Why not take someone else's son and say she had twins, if she wanted to keep the daughter?

I didn't miss what te said, I mean I asked her the same domande when she asked me why I didn't cry, she detto that he would kill them because of traditions and habits of this folk. The husband should have a son, if he didn't, he would kill his wife (bullshit). And the adoption is banned in this country (folk), so that's why the wife couldn't send her daughter to be adopted, o couldn't take someone's son and say she had twins. That's why...

I'd rather laugh about this then to cry, because I just can't believe it. But if this is indeed true... then it certainly is tragic. Seeing somebody cry about this wouldn't surprise me.

But that surprised me, I also will add that I laughed instead of crying, and all of them were looking at me like my nose was with six slots instead of two. O.o
