1. That's certainly the perception pushed da the media. They segnala on "PC gone mad" because they just love getting people into a contrived outrage. A random college student protesting about culturally appropriating tacos is not newsworthy. Yet people have lapped it right up. Apparently to half the population, "fighting against PC" is now più important than fighting against climate change. Some news stories aren't just bad journalism but also completely false- "Christmas carols banned!" is anti-Muslim BS that has been thoroughly debunked. 2. "PC" is a great buzzword, but people have always been getting offended. In the past, it was just about different things. With regards to LGBT issues, te used to be hauled over coals if te DID include a gay character in a story. Was that not their own form of "political correctness"? Now,"slut-shaming" is un-PC where previously wearing anything above the knee was un-PC. Different times, different things to get offended about.
3. People criticising your opinions does not repress your freedom of speech. In fact, it is them exercising their own freedom of speech. So when te post ypur racist commento on Facebook and people attack te for it, no, it's not coz "PC". te put your opinion on a public forum, and people responded with their own. Freedom of speech is not freedom from the repercussions of it. Refer to picture below.
4. We may very well be getting less PC. Calls to ban the Quran and deport hundreds of thousands of people based on their religion... in the 90s, that would've caused an uproar. Now, the leader of the Netherland's third-largest political party proposes just that. Australia's own government frontbencher recently detto (after seeing the results of the American election and taking a massive pivot to the hard right) that "letting Lebanese into the country in the 1970s was a mistake". A few years ago, that sort of talk was confined to pubs and extremists. Now, not only was it detto da a Minister, in Parliament, but it received praise da many people and no condemnation at all from his party. So where is this mysterious "PC policing" that people always talk about? People are spouting off xenophobic visualizzazioni everywhere - they're not getting censored. They are, in fact, getting endorsed.
Also, tumblr really does not represent the general population. Please stop talking about it in the context of "PC gone mad". Look at the wider world. "Everything must be PC nowadays" is a very popolare sentiment but I encourage te to apply some skepticism and evaluate the evidence.
