Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?

I have too but it seems like such a chore to close your mouth when applying mascara.

I didn't even think about how will I put it on this morning and I didn't open my mouth,and then after I figured out I didn't,we don't pay much attention to it,it's just a habit
