*My Crazy Friend Janes*
after Ponyboy and i finished our weeds off and talking we went on our way back to Dairy Hut. Dally and Johnny were waiting for us at the tavolo we had previously. "i thought i told te two not run off," Dally detto with a grin. "what happend to listening. Darry would kill me if i Lost te in this bum state, Pony. what were guys doing anyway? anything i need to know?" i blushed and so did Ponyboy.
"aw, cut it out, Dal. we just met for pete's sake. whatdya think we were doing?" pony asked.
"i dont know. thats why im asking YOU, smarty."
"well, dont worry. Amber was just mostrare me something on this...what is it again?" Ponyboy asked me. i giggled.
"its a computer. i was mostrare him things on the internet." the three boys looked at me, baffled, and shook their heads. they would never get up-to-date with all this "futuristic technology." then i thought of something. "oh my Po"--then i stopped myself. i usually say "oh my Ponyboy" instead of "oh my gosh". and i couldnt say that. it would be embarrassing. really. --"i mean oh my gosh i need to mostra te guys something that all three a te need to get if youre gonna stay here for...who knows how long. its probably gonna be a while."
"what?" Dally asked.
"a cell phone," i replied.
"a what?" pony asked.
"a cell phone. and dont think im one of those shallow girls who has to have it with her every secondo of every day. im just saying, since it looks like te guys are gonna be here for a while, there has to be a way we can get in touch. just in case if there are any problems."
we had along walk until i pulled them through a T-Mobile store. we sat on the back of a yellow-creamy car for a smoke (the owner didnt like that all too much) and then i showed them all different kinds of phones inside the store; flip phones, blackberries, touch-screen. anything and everything. the salespeople were eyeing all four of us suspiciously. i smiled and chuckled then i looked out a window and saw it was already really late. the sunset was coming on. "ok," i detto to the boys. "im gonna have to get te guys telephones tomorrow o something cause its getting really late so..." then it hit me, another important thing.
i looked at the three boys and smacked my forehead. "you guys have nowhere to stay. where did te plan on staying before?" i asked.
"at one of Dally's friend's house. doesnt look like that gonna happen any time soon," Ponyboy said.
i thought and thought. where could three hoodlums stay for a couple weeks o months without anyone minding? then it hit me. "bingo," i detto to myself. i tried grabbing all three of their hands and i raced across town, onto the semi-wealthy side. to tell te the truth, i dont really like rich people all that much but i have a friend, an adult, who is and he might let Dallas and Johnny and Ponyboy stay with him. i ran up with the boys to a nice big house and rang the doorbell. Ponyboy and Dally looked the house over and snickered at the same time.
"hey, guys," i said. "no bitterness." i looked at Dally. "and that means you, Dally." Dallas grinned woolfishly.
"damn, girl, how much of me is in that book? te know me all too well." then he looked at Ponyboy. "Pony, what did te say about me?" Ponyboy grinned at him sheepishly and glanced nervously at me. just then the door opened and standing in the doorway was a young but old man. he was tall, had big brown eyes, and fluffly, silvery flowing hair. he looked old, cause he was, but he also looked young. he kinda looked like Dr. Emmett Brown, o "Doc," from the three 80s Film Back to the Future. he kinda acted like him too. he was a scientist. i even called him Doc sometimes cause he looks like Doc Brown from the movie, but most of the time i call him Janes, cause thats his last name. weird, huh?
"Amber!" he exclaimed. "come on in!" he shoved me and my Friends (if i am even allowed to call them that yet) into his house. he had a nice big house. it wasnt too big, but it was a decent size. we stepped into the living room, very clean and cut. Janes took my hand and pulled me through a hallway, the kitchen, and into his family room. then he opened a door and we flew down a staircase, into a basement: his labratory. papers and blueprints covered the floor and newspapers were stacked in a corner. two chalkboards full of white chalk Scrivere stood against the east wall. a long tavolo against the west bacheca was stacked with inventions like mind-readers and teleporters. Janes was kinda a crazy guy who believed he could do anything and invent anything if he set his mind to it. thats why i liked him.
he sat me down in an old wooden chair a strapped a little device around my wrist. Dallas, Johnny, and Ponyboy stood aside and watched what Janes was doing. i tried to get up. "hey, Janes"--he pushed me back down and plopped a mechanical hat onto my head. it was blinking colori and it beeped alot.
"um, Janes"--i tried standing up but i was pushed down on the shoulders da him. he hurridly rushed over to his tavolo of inventions. i hate it when he does this, i thought. i grunted.
"Janes!" i impatiently un strapped the mechanical hat off of my head and tore off the "bracelet." i threw them onto the chair and ran over to him.
"hello?!" i shouted in his face. he looked at me with blank eyes, then he smiled. out of the corner of my eye, i saw Ponyboy looking very curiously at us.
"whats going on?" he asked.
"oh, its nothing," i said. "ive just become a part of another one of Janes's experiments!" Janes always did this to me. whenever i was around, i was his test dummy, his lab rat. i didnt mind it that much, but right now i needed to discuss "important" matters with him.
"now, Doc, are te gonna listen to me o not?!" i asked Janes. his smile grew wider.
"of course, Amber. im sorry for earlier. i was just busy. i think i might be onto something!" he detto excitidly. i smiled.
"yeah, well, can te be onto something later? i need a favor."
