I picked David because I think Louis needs someone authoritative to take charge and tell him what to do, tell him to clean up and put on fresh clothes, and tell him where to go, someone to give him direction.

Of this criteria David, Lestat, Claudia, Armand are fitting (hence why I think, even for a brief period of time, they have all been his companion).

But Lestat can be cruel, and would think nothing of teasing and mocking Louis, and we all know Louis is a delicate flower, and there for doesn't take it too well.

Claudia, is a child and there for was dependant on Louis as much as he was on her, and she had her own internal battles to deal with before she could help him with his.

Armand is deluded and is just as melodramatic as Louis, so together I think they both would wind themselves up to a point of hysteria! It would be torturous for for those around them. Its like putting two melodramatic, self-absorbed teen girls in a room together.

David I believe is the best choice, as he is grounded, and there for would pull Louis down to earth with him. He would tell Louis when he's overreacting, but he is also understanding and gentle. He would happily tell Louis to get dressed and brush his hair, and tell him where to go and when.

claudia had the body of a chld but the mind of a woman

I'm not meaning ot be rude, dense or ignorant, but how does that make Claudia the most fitting companion for Louis?

I have to say Claudia as Ive pnly read books with either Lestat, Louis and Claudia so far :)

Lestat is pretty much the opposite of Louis, therefore, I believe they balance each other. Louis keeps Lestat from doing stupid things, and Lestat hopefully cheers Louis up a bit with his humor. Or if that doesnt work than he should be alone.

Lestat is the best companion for Louis, but Louis tends to forget how much he loves him unless he is alone for a while. He really needs time to be alone while people visit him, or he visits others.

Though I suppose I chose this one because I read all of the books, but hey!
