Well, for starters, Elena isn't blonde. Don't get me wrong, I love Nina, but as a fellow blonde, I find it very annoying when people that are suppose to be blonde aren't (it wouldn't be that big of a deal if it weren't for the fact that it happens almost every time).

And secondly, look at Caroline! The girl's in a hospital, nearly dead! Plus, outside of VD, Hanna in Pretty Little Liars got hit by a car! And another thing I just though of, Lexi - who got killed - was also blonde!

Being a blonde in a CW studio is hazardous to your health it seems to me. So maybe it's better that Nina didn't dye her hair after all...

honestly are we still talking about why elena isnt blond, good god. they said that nina was the best actress and they wouldve loved to have a blonde that could top nina dobrev but none could and they needed a actress for the show that could grow and go on for many years. and i seriously its in your headsm this whole blonde thing, it has nothing to do wit that, its has to do wit the character.

I'm happy Elena is brunette, no blonde actress could play her and Katherine as well as she does. I mean, maybe someone could but it wouldn't be the same... (And I'm getting kinda tired of people saying "oh, but she's supposed to be blonde...")

Elena in the book is different to show Elena. So it's good that she's not blonde. Elena in the book is a blonde bimbo bitch, she's a horrible, shallow person (at first) she gets everything she wants, whenever she wants it, her parents died three years before the story started so the whole change for the better because my parents died dynamic isn't there. In the show, Elena partied less and became a better person after her parents died, she completely changed, things that used to matter to her didn't anymore which is what it's like after someone important dies, and her parents died like just a couple months back... The fact that Elena has brown hair kind of shows the character she is, she has nice soft straight brown hair, she is a nice, soft sweet, kind earthy girl, and than her hair just looks amazingly bad ass as Katherine!!!! <3
