should i read the books?

well, i only know about the vampire diaries because of the tv mostra and i've heard the libri have pretty much nothing to do with the tv show, so my domanda is, what's your fan advice, 'cuz i;m also a fan of HP and i'm really desappointed in almost every movie (specially david yate's) and i don't want to get desappointed in TVD too
