Miss \'The Walking Dead?\' Listen to Melissa McBride Talk About Carol\'s Arc And The Season Finale
, Carol has had the most remarkable arc. She started as a scared, abused housewife who couldn’t protect her only daughter. And she’s ended up as the group’s most relentless realist, the one who’s planning ahead and makes the tough decisions, no matter how distasteful.
And the Season 5 finale was no exception, as she confronted abusive husband, Pete, making it clear that his behavior is unacceptable.
Behind this remarkable character, is, of course, a remarkable actress. I had the privilege to talk to Melissa McBride after the episode aired about Carol’s journey.
Thanks for doing this. I just wanted to let you know that when Rick first banished Carol from the group, we took an informal poll on Forbes—Team Rick or Team Carol—and there was a really thoughtful healthy debate, and Team Carol won, which was I think a tribute to how much they relate to her as a character.
Carol fit in so well in Alexandria, trying to keep a low profile.
That was kind of a split-second decision she made as they were asked to give their weapons up. She said to herself. “I can watch the people and they won’t have their eyes on me if I don’t seem like a threat to anyone.”
[If I tell them] “I don’t know how to handle a weapon” and “I’m happy to be here” then I can get the inside scoop.
I love the funny line about the Junior League
