The situation on Fraser Island is appalling. QPWS/DERM have made 'not feeding the dingoes' into a mantra. Yet these dogs have always come to humans in times of need and emergency. Indeed, they were the hunting/camp dogs of the indigenous inhabitants. For thousands of years dingoes gravitated towards humans, and their food scraps. You can't tell a dingo "I don't think it's very 'wild' for you to do this" - it is part of a dingo's nature to do it.

Yet on Fraser Island, fines of around $30,000 are being brought against people who QPWS/DERM accuses of 'feeding the dingoes'. The standard of proof is appalling. In one case a ranger was sacked for (allegedly) improperly disposing of some foodscraps at his camp on Fraser Island - without any suggestion that a dingo so much as sniffed the remains!

The dingoes of Fraser Island are wandering around with their ribs protruding. QPWS/DERM (see photobox above) claims this is "natural"! No it is not. To read a short summary of the situation you can go to
