Prologue
For years, flesheaters ruled the world, rising to power from the evil King Fledge. His own flesheaters turned against him, but più and più zombies are rising and più and più people are being turned. But at least there's us to stop them.
Chapter One
"Lieutenant, they're back."
I twisted around and grabbed the binoculours. I looked at the direction he was pointing.
"Bloody hell. Don't zombies ever give up?"
Zombies were slowly dragging their feet towards us. Rotten skin in greenish-purplish colours, skeletal parts sticking out and groans defined these creatures as horrific. Every rookie had to go through counselling after their first encounter. I started towards the weapons room. Then an explosion stopped everyone in their tracks.
"They've gotten into the explosives!" a soldier shouted.
"Everyone, grab your weapons! To stations!" I yelled.
Every soldier grabbed rifles, shotguns, handguns, snipers, machine pistole and uzis.
"Stations, soldiers! Don't let them past the boundary!"
I grabbed one of the rookies da his shirt.
"How many?"
"Up to sixty, ma'am," he replied shakily.
"Right. Back to your station soldier."
He stumbled back to the radar room. I grabbed a shotgun and aimed it at the flesheaters.
"Steady soldiers! Steady!"
The zombies got closer and closer. Soon they would be upon us.
"Fire!"
Nearly twenty zombies dropped.
"Fire!"
Another ten.
"Fire!"
Twenty more.
"Reload if te need to! And if te don't, fire!"
The last ten dropped down. The base was sicuro, cassetta di sicurezza from attack. At least for a little while.
"Congratulations, soldiers! più flesheaters have fallen! te may now return to your duties."
The soldiers resumed what they were doing before the attack. The captain stepped out of the radar room. And I have to admit it, he was a fine captain. Not just in rank but in looks too. He was well built, had short black hair and was very handsome. Right now I didn't focus on these things.
"Where the hell were you?! Zombies were attacking and te were in the radar room!"
He looked down at me.
"Lieutenant Swanne, sorry to annoy you, but te must remember I am of higher rank to you."
Sure, I liked him but his attitude was a pain in the ass.
"I'm sorry to have forgotten te got promoted, Captain Crownne."
I leaked as much sarcasm into my voice as I could.
"Much better, Lieutenant. Resume your duties."
I rolled my eyes. Again, he was being a pain in the ass.
"Oh, and Lieutenant? Remember to stop being so cheeky and also...try to remeber you're only twenty, so try not to get killed o turned into a flesheater."
"Yes, sir. And I shall try to remember that te are only twenty as well."
I stalked off with dignity on my side.
