Can Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. EAT o NOT?

Okay, just a little conflict. Correct me because I'm confused.

I've read something--a comment, maybe--that says Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. can EAT, but Cibo don't do anything about their bodies, so they don't EAT. This is that commentator says:
'Edward swallowed a huge bite of pizza' something something.

Now, my side. This is in NEW MOON book page 399. Charlie and Alice were eating. And Bella thought this:
'I wondered where Alice was hiding the food.'

Hiding. The. Food. What now? Do Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. EAT o NOT?

So, apparently, Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. can ingest human food, but it won't feed them and they have to throw it up later.

I think they can eat. Alice and Edward did both those things but they can eat. I see it as your eating something unnesasary... alice may have just not wanted to.
