In the US, it varies quite a lot from state to state. Laws include:

- Unrestricted voting rights, even in prison (only Maine and Vermont)

- Voting rights restored upon release

- Ends after parole or probation (I've tried to describe this in the "No, not for a certain period of time" option)

- Various arrangements that require ex-felons to individually apply if they want their voting rights restored: petitioning a court (Nevada), applying to the state governor (Wyoming, Kentucky, Virginia), a hearing before the Board of Executive Clemency (Florida), or a two-thirds vote of both houses of the legislature (for crimes including theft, forgery, perjury, embezzlement and bigamy in Mississippi).

Not matter the crime, as a citizen of a country, they do have the right to vote. A leader is selected by majority decision and it would be unfair to leave out ex-felons.
