Chapter 19- The Switch
The Cuccioli gasped as Cruella’s shoes drew nearer and nearer to where they were.
“Oh no! Hide!” Scamp gasped, and they all hid in the bathroom across the hallway from Cruella.
“I hope we shut the door,” Penny whispered.
“We didn’t,” Lucky stated matteroffactly.
“And if we didn’t turn the light off?” Penny whispered.
“We didn’t do that either,” Lucky added.
“Oh no!” Angel stated. “We must shut it! We have to stop the light too!”
But it was too late. Cruella opened the door, and she was clearly very pleased. She opened it with a bang, and then “Jasper! Horace!” she stated delightedly. “Is my ciliegia pie ready?”
“Cherry… pie?” Horace asked.
“Yes!” Cruella shrieked, still standing in the hallway, lifting her arms up into the air. “The ciliegia pie I told te to make me earlier this morning.”
“But Madame, that wasn’t in the job description,” Jasper protested, but Cruella cut him off, saying, “I’m the boss! I give te the money. And I’m telling te to give me my ciliegia pie!”
“We’ll get to it,” Jasper stated, but she then screamed, “And that’s not all! I want my play darts! I want them for practice to throw at the stuffed Dalmatians!”
“They’re in your room,” Horace shouted. “We didn’t touch them.”
“Oh yes te did!” Cruella shrieked at them. “I can’t find them anywhere! They must have gotten…”
“Hey,” Scamp whispered, with Cruella continuing to rage in the background. “She’s distracted. “Maybe I can go in the room and find the switch.”
“No!” Penny squealed, but Scamp recklessly crossed the hallway and entered Cruella’s room.
“Can I come?” asked a voice behind Scamp.
Scamp turned, and saw Lucky following him. “I want to go in too.”
Scamp replied, “I guess so…”
“But te know it’s very dangerous for you, don’t te Lucky?” Penny asked from across the hallway. Lucky ignored her, and the two of them entered the room.
Scamp laid his eyes on one of the most unpleasant rooms he’d seen in his life. The floor was very, very dusty, and bugs crossed it on a regular basis. A large, elegant letto stood in the room, but its bedposts had bizarre, deformed expressions on them. An old creepy telephone sat on her nightstand, with a whole layer of dust also occupying the stand. On the walls of the room, posters of pelliccia coats dominated the red walls, and on her desk, a group of stuffed Dalmatians sat, sitting nearby were some scissors.
“Hey!” Lucky declared from behind Scamp. “There’s a TV in here!”
Scamp groaned, being bitten da a bug at the same time. “Lucky, if te want to be here...”
“I knew there would have to be a TV in here!” Lucky exclaimed. “Maybe I can turn it on!”
“But we can’t watch yet,” Scamp yawned. “Help me find…”
But Scamp paused. He found a box that stated, “POWER.”
“Yeah!” Scamp declared happily. Excitedly, Scamp pressed a button that stated, “Fence: OFF”.
“Lucky!” Scamp told him. “We’re done!”
“But I just turned the switch…” Lucky began.
Scamp gasped. Lucky managed to find the Televisione switch, and he turned the TV on.
“Lucky, it has to go off!” Scamp nervously stated. “The TV wasn’t on before… Cruella would notice!” However, Scamp, being completely unfamiliar with televisions, was unable to find the switch that would turn the TV off.
“I’m not done watching!” Lucky argued with Scamp, and the two of them began to tussle in front of the television. “And she wouldn’t notice anyway!”
From the other side of the hallway, Angel peered down the staircase and noticed… a terrible sight. She hurried over to Cruella’s bedroom, where Scamp was trying to turn off the TV, with Lucky trying to stop him. She entered the room, and stated, “Get going! We have to leave!”
“Why?” Scamp asked, still trying to turn off the TV.
“Cruella’s coming,” she explained shortly. With no time to do anything else to the television, they all scrambled out of the room quickly just as Cruella entered.
Scamp, Angel, and Lucky managed to go into the bathroom, and Patch and Penny looked relieved to see them back.
“Did te do it?” Angel asked Scamp when they entered the room. The five of them jumped into the bathtub, thinking it would be the best place to hide for a quick getaway.
Tired, Scamp nodded. “It’s tiresome work, I tell you…” Then, he rounded on Lucky. “Why did te turn the TV on?”
“I haven’t watched any TV in days!” Lucky complained. “I don’t know if Thunderbolt defeated the Blasted Bandit o not!”
“Lucky, did te seriously turn the TV on?” Patch asked.
“So what if I did?” Lucky snapped back. “There’s only so long I can go without the TV!”
“Maybe she won’t notice,” Angel stated hopefully.
“She will,” Penny told them dourly. “It’s not that hard not to notice…”
But then, an unpleasant, loud beeping occurred. The beeping seemed to be coming from Cruella’s room.
“Wh…what’s happening?” Patch asked nervously.
“Oh no,” Penny whispered. “This sounds bad.”
Cruella instantly stopped walking toward her bedroom and returned to the stairs. From the superiore, in alto of the stairs, she roared, “Well! Who turned off the fence?” The beeping repeated over and over again.
“I didn’t,” Horace stated.
“Nor did I,” Jasper added.
“Well, somebody did!” Cruella shrieked. “And I do not tolerate this! Do te understand!
“Blimey!” Horace stated. “I didn’t do it… did you, Jasper?”
“Nah, Horace,” Jasper explained.
But then, Cruella looked in the bathroom, and her eyes scanned the room until they fell upon the five Cuccioli in the bathtub. With no place to hide, the Cuccioli were cornered. Cruella screamed, “You didn’t lock all of those Cuccioli up! How could te be so careless!”
“Sorry Madame,” Horace began to say, but Cruella ignored them.
“You left me with no choice,” Cruella groaned, “I have to sleep with those Cuccioli tonight. They’re going in my room… where they’ll never get out!”
And Cruella picked up the five puppies, threw them onto the bed, and locked the door.
The Cuccioli gasped as Cruella’s shoes drew nearer and nearer to where they were.
“Oh no! Hide!” Scamp gasped, and they all hid in the bathroom across the hallway from Cruella.
