1. If Amore knows no bounds (which it doesnt!) Then Age, race, and yes, even gender should not matter.

2. They dont flat out HATE each other! Its all play fight. They both know that one couldnt last a secondo without the other! They say all that stuff because they care for one another! And if they did like each other (b/c te are saying that they dont) It wouldnt be lust. Do te think that gay relations o age difference means it HAS TO BE lust?

......About your main question. Maybe it is so popolare b/c we are all just wishing to see a slight understanding in the world for homosexuals. We are still hoping that maybe there is a time when we are not shunned and pushed aside......just for our Amore going in a different direction then the popolare view on it.

To be completely honest, i HATE the RoyEd pairing. It doesn't make sense. The age difference is gross, and uncalled for. If she had intended them to be together(Which she didn't) She would have made them around the same age. She meant EdWin, and that's it. End of story. I'm not in on the fan war, but i just want to make a point, RoyEd is FANON! EdWin is CANON! There's a difference between the two...

Saying that "they don't get along" is a poor counter because te have a lot of the same antagonistic dynamic between EdRoy as te do with EdWin. Opposites attract is a thing. While Winry's interest in Ed is well established, I *don't* think Ed's reciprocated interest is. That means when they get together, it feels like it’s the stereotypical ending instead of an earned one.

Onto why I enjoy the ship from someone who actually ships them. Ed is a fascinating character to me, and so is Roy. Winry really isn’t. It’s not that she isn’t well-developed is just not as interesting to me. I like Winry, I just don’t like her *with Ed.* The juxtaposition of Ed’s maturity based on his trauma and the immaturity of still being young is interesting, and further complicated da how smart he is. I can very easily see Roy as 1) someone who isn't picky about gender and 2) very attracted to intelligence and competence, both of which Ed has IN SPADES. Roy is overt about flirting with women, but even in-world, it's established that it's largely a facade. I can see Ed being attracted to Roy for similar reasons. Honestly, the fact that Roy blatantly pulls Ed's chain so often feels pretty similar to a boy pulling on the pigtails of a girl he likes.

They're also both very damaged individuals, and I think that their traumas give them an empathy with one another that few others have.

I know the age gap is a deal breaker for a lot of people. In Ed's case, even when he's immature, there's a weight and metaphorical age he has gained through what he's been through. I think he'd relate much più to someone like Roy and I think he actually has much più in common with someone like Roy than peers his own age.

That isn't to say there aren't problems inherent with shipping them. For me, più than the age gap is the power dynamic issue. There are very good reasons why nonfraternization policies exist. The potential for abuse in that situation is *huge* and shouldn't be ignored. Particularly because Roy was the one who recruited Ed in the first place.

The solve I see in good fics (and I use in my own) is that Ed is usually the one to make the first move. Roy making a sposta on Ed has too much potential to read as squicky between the age difference and power dynamic. Fortunately, Ed is a character who is proactive, so having him decide to make a sposta makes sense. Most good fics (at least ones that aren't blatant AUs) even have Roy having issues with the age difference and the power dynamic, and them dealing with those as being factors in the relationship.

There’s nothing wrong with Ed marrying his childhood friend, but to me, Roy/Ed is a 1000x più interesting.

And yes, they're hot together.

And I Also want to bring to your attention, that Roy acts gay(Uke at that) all of the time,cleaning windows, looking at his nails,and he even was spying on Edward to make sure he was alright,during his oral part of the test! Rewatch that episode from the original series if te don't believe me!

i myself dont understand how people can up with this.yaoi fan always seem to find the odd parings out there.they dont care if it doesn't make sense,they just want to get their boy's Amore out there and DREAM. just like if te wanted to be famous.even if its impossible,youstill dream.

Just because it's out of character doesn't mean that fan can't have fun. It's /fiction/. I think we all know that it's really out-of-character for both of them, but c'mon, it's also out of character for Light x L, from Death Note. Let the fan have fun.

Because people seem to Amore to shove Yaoi in everything, I don't understand it myself. The one thing I do hate about yaoi, is when it's fan start saying their pairing is Canon. Umm....did they date? Are they married? Did they kiss...hug? Say they Amore each other? Then they're not Canon! It's just a Fan-Made pairing! If you're true fan te would be able to except it as that, I do that with all my Yaoi pairings.

I actually DO like some Yaoi and I don't mind other pairings. But once te start pairing brothers together o people 20 years apart, that's were I draw the line. That makes me sick, it's not just yaoi it's for everything. It can be brother/sister, sister/sister, o brother/brother. It's wrong and not right. All pairings like that are sick! I hate pairings like RoyEd and even RizaEd, they're like 30 years apart in age! It's just not right!! Go ahead and ship people like L and Light(Death Note), that doesn't bother. But do NOT ship sibling and people far apart in age together! How would te feel if it was happening in real life? I beat te wouldn't feel the same about it.

Now I don't watch o read Yaoi at all, the Yaoi I like is just sweet and cute pictures. te now like them hugging o even a baciare on the cheek. Nothing to big, I mean I like some baciare pictures, but do not go over board.

I'm not trying to bash Yaoi o Roy Ed fan at all but... i just don't agree with it. Not in an anti gay type of way but an " i don't think they feel about each other that way" type thing. I think that Roy and Ed have a interesting relationship i can't quite pin a word for... maybe brotherly? Again just my opinion. I honestly don't see how it's "beautiful" to me it's basically: Yaoi fangirls taking two random guys and making them a couple. Ed is not gay, and Roy is definitely not gay, i mean he's a huge girl obsessed player (when i'm the leader of the country all FEMALE officer's will be required to wear.....TINY MINISKIRTS!!!). So yeah i don't get o like the pairing at all it makes me very annoyed some people think it's actually a good couple. RoyEd is a popolare pairing because of several reasons, and of course there's the shippers that ship just to ship, and others who like to see them interacting. People like the conflict and the arguing and sparks that they'll inevitably send off. It's like an AriesxAries relationship; {Talking about Western zodiac} very exciting and exhilarating. I mean, of course there'll be the shippers because they're two very hot guys, then there's the OOC'ers, but that happens to nearly every pairing. {Less so with canon pairings, but te know what I mean} I don't really read o look at OOC stuff. I can't stand it. A lot of romantic relationships are 'vicious' in the, uh, real world, I guess, and those relationships where they aren't seen as something to constantly be coddled are welcomed da a wider variety of people.I understand the problem with the age differences. I sound so picky, but I'm not willing to read shonen-ai's and yaois when Ed is so young- più like when he's twenty o something. Yes, Colonel Bastard ages with Ed, but at least Ed's legal! Unfortunately I've only watched the 2003 airing and that makes this pairing *cough* tricky, so no spoilers if te want to argue any of my points T.T. A lot of RoyEd shippers knew it was a futile hope from the beginning, what with Riza, te know, existing, but are happy with our fanarts. I hope this helps te understand it from a shipper's view, though I doubt it, I'm not very good at this kind of thing :'D

But on what te addressed, I'd have to agree with all of it. I also noticed that when I was Leggere this, te also listed off everything I have against the Ereri ship in Attack on Titan.(fan girls, please don't kill me)
