Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
photo deluge of 2016 flooded the internet with intriguing new images from the ultra-mysterious upcoming sixth season. Since the show is firmly beyond author George R.R. Martin’s novels for the first time, the pics received Zapruder-like examination from fans, and actually reveal quite a few things about how the new season storylines (there’s no trailer – yet). Here’s what we learned (and what we suspect) from the photos.
In the season 4 finale, the mystical tree-loving Three-Eyed Raven told Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) that the crippled young Stark would never walk again. Well, so much for that! Then again, the Raven also probably didn’t expect to be played by an entirely different actor this year (the great Max von Sydow). Here we see a non-Hodor-assisted Bran Stark with the Raven. One theory is that Bran is in one of his
-style visions that will populate season 6 as he begins to learn how to go into the past and future of Westeros. Or perhaps he’s been somehow healed after all?
This feels familiar! The Dothraki clan that surrounded Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) at the end of season 5 have apparently tied her up and brought her to their leader. We suspect this will play out rather differently than Dany’s season 1 storyline – she’s far from the same helpless exile who was sold into slavery by her brother (not to mention, we don’t see
After the season 5 finale, we figured that Myrcella Baratheon (Nell Tiger Free) was dead, and her father Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) would bring her body to a post-Walk of Shame Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). So while the two images below are not surprising, it looks like we’re definitely in for an intense exchange back at the Red Keep.
4. Sansa and Theon survived their jump from Winterfell’s battlement
It would have been rather shocking if season 6 opened with Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) dead on the ice ground (twist!), though one of them could have been severely wounded and then have to rely on the assistance of the other (and good luck with that). Theon isn’t standing, but seems relatively alert. Of course, just getting outside the castle hardly means they’re home free, especially since they’re fleeing Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) – a guy who lets captives escape just so he can hunt them down for sport. But the image that’s caused the most interest is one of Sansa solo that had Twitter exploding with speculation that she might be pregnant with Ramsay’s child. I wondered if that bump is actually her hands (like this, see?). Either way, we’re loving how Sansa looks like somebody not to be messed with.
Greyjoy patriarch Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide) has only appeared in a handful of episodes, usually to pound tormented Theon’s self-esteem further into the ground at Pyke. But Balon hasn’t been seen since the season 3 finale. We also have an image of Theon’s warrior sister Yara (Gemma Whelan), whom we last saw briefly in season 4. Here are a couple possible scenerios that hinge on whether Theon escapes from Ramsay: The family might be reacting to news of Theon’s death, or, if he gets away, there might be a happy family reunion. Well, not
Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) was blinded as punishment for defying the Faceless Men in the season 5 finale. It looks like she’s been exiled from the House of Black and White. Worse: She doesn’t have any oysters, clams
7. That cruel septa has turned her attention to Margaery
Cersei swore she was going to kill the bell-ringing sadist, but Septa Unella (Hannah Waddingham) is still tormenting prisoners. HBO’s image credit reveals the person in the foreground is none other than Queen Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), who seems to be having a rather bad hair day. I wouldn’t think
would stage a second penance walk, but we suspect Septon has all sorts of other ways to make the her victims feel shame, shame, shame …
