It was called Game of Thrones theory: Is Tormund Lyanna Mormont's father?
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
And now it begins: the endless theorizing over what will happen in
Season 7. To be fair, there are some great theories out there. We’ve
discussed some of them in two recent episodes of the Take the Black podcast. However, there are some wacky ones floating around, too.
fandom. It proposes a theory regarding the supposed parentage of Lady Lyanna Mormont, our new favorite
character: that Tormund Giantsbane, a known braggart who has told a tall tale or two about bedding a bear, is her father.
Maege Mormont, Lyanna’s mother, seen briefly in Season 1.
This theory first began to turn heads back in 2013, on the
message boards. As the theory goes, Tormund Giantsbane impregnated Lyanna Mormont’s mother, Maege, at some point during the never-ending clashes between wildlings and northmen. As you may recall, Maege Mormont died fighting for Robb Stark, something Lyanna reminds both Jon and Sana of when they seek her support.
Although it’s not talked about on the show, in the books, Maege Mormont is known as the She-Bear. All the members of the Mormont clan are closely associated with bears, residing as they do on Bear Island. In the books, Lyanna’s sister Alysane even claims that the Mormonts are sired by bears.
Tormund’s braggadocious ways are more pronounced in the books. Still, they cropped up in “The Watchers on the Wall,” when he talks about bedding a she-bear named Shiela. Might he have been covering for Maege out of respect, or because he was so drunk he didn’t remember or learn her name?
With plenty of time between now and Season 7, there’s enough tinfoil evidence for this theory to pick up steam. But what do you think? Did Tormund sneak over to Bear Island and have a torrid affair with Maege Mormont? True or not, it would make for a fun reunion scene between father and daughter.

Thanks for coming her to tell me bye. That was awful polite. See you soon!
To what end? What would this stupid theory being correct actually achieve?
What a load of crapola. Shame shame Razor.
Some people have way too much time on their hands…
Do note: I called it wacky. Let’s all have a calming glass of tea, and think about the meaning of life…and Tormund banging Maege Mormont.
It is wacky and proves that game of thrones news is just few and far between this time of year. Maybe more interactive articles and stuff. Maybe a series of top ten lists for regular visitors to the site idk. Or we’ll all have to be patient until at least filming starts.
To be fair was thinking that the other day more of a book theory tho. And lighten up you lot its just a fun article calm down
Bunch of angry fucks – some of you deserve to get fucked by a bear
Yeah, you all should relax; it’s not the first time this theory has come up, plus it’s part of a wider bit of intrigue where none of the Mormont women seem to have husbands but they all have daughters that carry the Mormont name, so it’s interesting, possibly explains where Lyanna doesn’t care that Jon’s a bastard, cos she’s one too.
Love it. I just love this bs. Is it bs? More tinfoils please!
Actually I wondered about this when reading the books. I suspect she’s not a bastard since that aspect is never discussed and it’s possible that the line of lords can included women (as in Dorne, which has been dropped from the show, alas). Probably on Bear Island the lord/lady’s first-born child of either sex becomes lord/lady.
I’m pretty sure dorne hasn’t been dropped from the show. They are obviously involved in some shenanigans with the queen of thrones and varys…
Even if it’s just a pit stop for dany, dorne and its women will be in next season.
You’re right. I meant the IDEA that first-born women can inherit, which was a major plot point for Arianne in the books. All that was dropped from the show.
But…..I try to make a life without game of thrones. I’m either watching it or waiting for it. And there will come a time when I will just be rewatching in with kids and grandkids 😂.
In the meantime I try to catch up on other entertaining shows or live my life.
Don’t take it to heart those of you who don’t have friends and wait to oppose a naff theory or whatever and to those who have a life.
Yes, this is one of two Lyanna theories that popped into my head. The other being she made Jon King in the North cos she fancies him and hopes to be his queen someday. That’s a bit dodgy, though.
Or… Tormund is Wun Wun’s pappy. Maybe even his grandpappy. Perhaps he sired Mag the Mighty, who then in turn brought wittle baby Wun Wun into the world.
… And it all makes sense now. Giantsbane — Giants. Get it?
Any speculation articles regarding Lyanna Mormont are fine by me,keep em coming.
I sense a lot of keyboard warriors and much projected anger.
Thank you for keeping us entertained during our long wait. Some of us appreciate your efforts-keep em coming!!
Some of you people need to rip the sticks out of you’re asses and appreciate this site.
At the end of the show, there should be at least few characters who are who they are, not somebody else.
Same as Arya shouldn’t wear everybody else’s face at least once.
It’s okay. First I thought WTF, but this one is funny. Worth a read to the least.
Here’s my whacky theory. I wouldn’t mind your opinion Razor. i posted it here cos i can’t find reference to anything similar and figured what the hey. So here goes.
Then phantoms shivered through the murk, images in indigo. Viserys screamed as the molten gold ran down his cheeks and filled his mouth. A tall lord with copper skin and silver-gold hair stood beneath the banner of a fiery stallion, a burning city behind him. Rubies flew like drops of blood from the chest of a dying prince, and he sank to his knees in the water and with his last breath murmured a woman’s name. Mother of dragons, daughter of death…. Glowing like sunset, a red sword was raised in the hand of a blue-eyed king who cast no shadow. A cloth dragon swayed on poles amidst a cheering crowd. From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire. Mother of dragons, slayer of lies…. Her silver was trotting through the grass, to a darkling stream beneath a sea of stars. A corpse stood at the prow of a ship, eyes bright in his dead face, grey lips smiling sadly. A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. Mother of dragons, bride of fire….
These are the three lies Dany will slay. 1) is Stannis
3) I believe The stone Dragon is reference to Lyanna Stark in the Winterfell crypts. She is not a wolf. by marrying Rhaegar she is a Dragon. So the Stone Dragon rising from a smoking tower could represent the truth about Lyanna being revealed and the legitimising of Jon Snow.
Rhaegar dying saying a woman’s name. Mother of Dragons, daughter of death
From a smoking tower a great stone beast took wing breathing shadow fire. Mother of Dragons, slayer of lies.
A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. Mother of dragons, bride of fire
All references to Jon. The first is his father, the second is a false claimant to his throne and the last is him revealed.
It would make sense that Ned Stark would hide the proof of Jon’s parentage within Lyanna’s grave.
