Because those are faries not vampires.

Because sunscreen does not stop the sun from touching you. Just like how te can get a sunburn while wearing sunscreen, a vampire (whether he glitters o burns) would still be effected da the sunlight shining down on him.

Because they're cocky, pretentious a-holes. Duh.

te see, Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. sparkle only in direct sunlight (*ignoring the fact that our atmosphere and magnetic field of the Earth stop most of the sunrays, so we are never on "direct sunlight" anyway - if we would be, we would all burn, not just (old-fashioned) vampires*), so shadow, clauds, o clothes can stop the sunrays. But sunscreen can`t because, te see, Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. can`t change and...um, te need to change to use sunscreen and...em, Meyer said......

It was because Meyer wanted uber special Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. and thus took away every single weakness that they have. This comes from the fact that I can't possibly believe that Meyer wasn't in the slightest familiar with vampire legends before she started writing. She takes too much from other Vampire authors to be funny. But anyways, she figured cutting their weaknesses was a good thing, but that is just poor writing.
