The new film is based on King’s 1986 book about a demon who possesses the form of a circus clown and terrorises a local town but with a hugely popular mini-series from the early 90s starring Tim Curry a fan favourite, King also revealed that he’s hopeful fans will be able to ‘enjoy the movie’ and ‘actually savour’ it.
‘I had hopes, but I was not prepared for how good it really was. It’s something that’s different, and at the same time, it’s something that audiences are gonna relate to,’ he said in a new featurette for the film which stars Bill Skargard.

‘They’re gonna like the characters. To me, it’s all about character. If you like the characters… if you care… the scares generally work. I’m sure my fans will enjoy the movie. I think they’re gonna really enjoy the movie,’ he added..
‘And I think some of them will go back two or three times and actually savour the thing.’

Speaking to Metro.co.uk Skarasgard also admitted the new Penynwise is a different It to the one fans will remember.
‘It was always important for me to reinvent It and reinterpret It in a different way,’ he said.
‘I sort of grew up with the Tim performance and I was very familiar with it and a huge fan as an actor, so my process of preparing for the role was, “okay this needs to be different” and I think we did that, I think this Pennywise is different and they can stand alone – there’s no need to compare them as you can appreciate both but it was important to me to do something new and something original with the take on the character.’
