And Lady Gaga delivered on all counts last night as she brought her Monster Ball tour back to the United Kingdom.

But what fan might not have expected was to see the softer side of the singer, who performed an emotional set before breaking down and crying as she talked about her sick grandfather who is in hospital.

Dedicating the song Speechless to him, she told the audience: 'If we all sing loud enough, maybe he can hear us!'

The live U.K. broadcast on ITV1 last night (Feb. 16) averaged 5.8 million viewers, earning a 21.9% audience share between 8pm and 10pm. It was hosted da comedian Peter Kay.

Ratings for the BRITs, organized da U.K. trade body the BPI and sponsored da MasterCard, were up on the 5.2 million audience for the 2009 show. The 2008 edition, hosted da the Osbournes, averaged 6.1 million.
